I've been trying to write a Fanfic about the Wonderbolts, Whoop-de-doo I'm sure you'll say but wait! I have some concepts that all revolve around Soarin' and Spitfire and the institution that employs them. If the Wonderbolts are derived from the Blue Angels like everypony says, does that make them a branch of the Military? Or are they a sports team? They certainly are famous idols but how long have they been around? I mean there is very little to be gleaned about the Wonderbolts making it extremely annoying to come up with a back story that includes Spitfire and Soarin'. Originally I thought of doing a team that became the Wonderbolts but they are way too famous for a hot shot group of newbies right? Maybe there's a junior version but if there was wouldn't RD be all over it? I'm just asking what are your views on the Wonderbolts as a group. Do you see them as an ancient ceremonial branch of the Equestrian military? Or do you see them as a group of Celebrity Superstars who tour the Country putting on air shows? And how old are Soarin and Spitfire compared to other characters? (Particularly RD.)
If you read It's always sunny in fillydelphia. The writer said that in older times the Wonderbolts were a part of the military and over time were shrunk down and just became a performance group. Then still could be called on if they were needed for a war though. I hope that helps.
Thanks, I don't want to be at odds with existing fanon but I haven't seen much about the Wonderbolts. Military back story makes sense, perhaps now they are almost completely free of Military ties beyond the ceremonial considering their uniforms though. Its hard to tell considering how casual the rulers are, does that make the Military equally casual? Any details about the Wonderbolts from existing fanfiction will help but how do you envision the Wonderbolts? Considering all the glitz theirs names attract its hard to see them as anything but Superstars, in my opinion.
Just my take on it, but maybe the Wonderbolts were a special branch of the military that could've been in use during a war against Discord and other threats. Now that Equestria has been at peace, they were no longer needed for the military and they eventually became the celebrities they are today. I doubt anypony on the current team were part of the army, but they are just carrying on the legacy of the original Wonderbolts. That's my way of seeing it, I haven't read any Wonderbolt fics yet, so I wouldn't know about existing fanon. Sorry about that.
Little fun fact in my main fanfic I bring in the Blue Angels, but in all reality I can see where the Wonder Bolts got their origins as a performance team.
Thanks for the help, So current members wouldn't need any military training, right? Just skilled civilians. Would they still answer to Celestia or do you think they lead themselves or would they have agents like normal superstars?
