She walked out to the water, the sparkling river up to her knees before she turned to him. Her hair was golden in the sunlight, her eyes a soft mix of apricot and honey as she reached out a hand to him. “You coming?”
She grinned at him. “I think it’s wonderful,” she said, her fingers intertwining with his for just a moment before she reverted back to their normal position. “But I’m still not good at swimming.”
"We don't have to go deep enough to swim," he told her, "it looks like the shore stays fairly shallow."
She looked up at him before going a little deeper in the water, about waist deep. She gasped in surprise from the cold. “Oh, Gods.”
He laughed, slowly dipping lower in the water and taking her hands. "It'll help you get used to it faster."
She took a few quick breaths before dropping into the water with a small splash. As he watched, he would see her go still under the water before tentatively moving around. It was possible she may have been exaggerating how bad she was at swimming.
Her movements were tentative and she swam down to the bottom before coming up to the surface, gasping for breath, her hair dark with water. She stumbled a little, blinking rapidly to try and get the water out of her eyes.
He caught her hand with a laugh. "See? It's not that bad," he said affectionately before dipping underwater as well.
It was blurry, but she could sort of see, as you do with water. His eyes were closed and he reemerged shortly after.
She swam around a little longer before resurfacing, the water up to her shoulders as she looked up at him, water droplets running down her neck.
She reached out and took his hands, looking up at him eagerly. "I'm going to go into deeper water. Want to come with?"
