Pony Custom?

After a stressful day with my family, I decided to treat myself to a couple blind bag ponies -got Granny Smith (would like to trade her) and Lotus Blossom, and also decided to try my hand at a custom pony figure. Bought Pinkie Pie and plan on making my OC, Nova. Getting all my paints and things together, wish me luck all, I hope it goes well and doesn't end in horrific failure.

Also, Rainbow Dash hat is coming along nicely. I'm putting her eyes and hair on today. Yay!

I got tired of seeing the incorrect mane on my rainbow dash figure, so I used her as painting practice and made her mane the correct colours. I'm planning on making Nova (my OC), Derpy and Princess Luna tomorrow from the blind bags I bought today while I'm waiting on my pony hair to arrive in the mail for my brushable.
I'm hoping I can learn how to do the clay with the figures once I have some extra money.

    Removing a ponies head is the hardest part- ripping out the hair is the second hardest.

    Awesome! Can't wait to see the results!

    I've been meaning to make a custom Brushable for ages, but can't find a store in town that seels the hair.
    And I can't buy online right now...
    Bah.
    I've had a play around with some of my Brushables, and I find getting the head back on more difficult than getting it off, myself. That's before I figured out you could shove a pencil up there though, to widen the gap.

    I'm going to try using kanekalon hair, I buy mine for dread falls, so I have a big batch left of hot pink from when I made dreads to match my hair. For a giant pack, it's $3 at DoctoredLocks online, but it's also available at Sally's Beauty supply and other weave shops. You can also get the my little pony type hair at Dollyhair online. I need to get white though for my toy. I'm going to at least paint her cutie mark, hooves and eyes today.
    I cut the part out that you stick the head back on to make it move, I'm just going to set it and have it stationary.

    Just don't use those thick acrylics from Walmart. I learned that the hard way. I used the My Studio when I made my Wild Awry custom.

    I'm using acrylic paints with a model thinner- they've worked well so far, and the varnish really helped too. My figure only needs her hair, which I'm ordering once I get my paycheck, I've been having issues with my chronic illnesses again, so I couldn't go pick up my check on Friday, I'll have to on Monday. I was going to use some of my leftover kankelon hair, but it's just so good at holding it's form, it's just to firm so I'll order dollyhair. She looks really good so far and the hooves look great. I'm particularly happy with how the eyes and freckles turn out. I'm already making plans to buy a couple more figures- maybe try my hand at making Spitfire or a shadow bolt. The kankelon hair would go great with them because it's a very firm hair that I could usually making into the style of Spitfire.
