so today i had to give a speech in speech class. we all drew topics from a hat, but, the teacher had a special topic for me. i talk about ponies often in my school, so she wanted me to spend five minutes talking about it and describing bronies in general.
i talked about what we believe in and what we strive for. i got most of their attention until one jerk brought up the fact that im bi and next thing i know everyone in the class thought that all bronies are gay or bi. i spent a quarter of the class reasoning with the class trying to convince them to stop connecting the two dots.
luckily i got to the online media portion of the fandom. that was when they all shut up and listened. i played some Aviators, Tombstone, MicTheMic, and Toaster. in the end i think i recruited eght people out of twenty five. i left the class and by now everyone is commenting on my plushie sticking out of my jacket. positive comments. others though, they just avoid me. i think i lost five non-brony friends. so....was this a win?

    I still don't understand why these non-brony "friends" would choose to leave you now. You don't exactly seem to be hiding your ponies from them.

    Still, at least you managed to show them the awesome side to this fandom. I'd count this as a win. If your "friends" would leave you because you like ponies, they aren't very loyal friends.

    Just like B-Dog said.

    Real friends dont leave you because you like ponies. Real friends will maybe make some little jokes but not in a bad mannor, but such jokes that are funny for you too, but nothing more. I also accept that some of my friends are vegetarians and dont leave them, just because i think meat is awesome.

    Speech classes do exist, but they're typically more focused on how to give oratory speeches and also how to organize notes for giving one.

    I don't really have anything to build on what B-Dog and Valkyyria have already said, as I completely agree with both.

    I agree with the above, I had to do the same thing in my English class and it went less well...mainly because everyone started talking over the top of me this instant I mentioned the word pony (You know, yelling so that they wouldn't hear me, spouting the same kind of stuff you said). I had the slide with the statistics about the percentages of gay/bi bronies not being higher than usual, but nobody was willing to listen long enough and i had to end my presentation before it had even begun (Literally in 10 seconds flat).

    So comparative to mine, yes, yours is an outstanding success.
