June seemed to lighten from the view, her eyes soft as she swam. “This is pretty,” she said quietly to Zerras, looking up at him. Her fingers intertwined with his before she seemed to realize what she was doing and resumed her normal handhold.
He didn't seem to recall the implication, that or he didn't catch it in time. "It is," he agreed warmly.
She laughed a little, swimming backwards as she looked at him. “I could get on your back. Would that help?”
He laughed slightly, shaking his head. "You just want me to pull you." Tez looked back at them inconspicuously, her gaze curious.
“That’s exactly what I want,” she agreed, not noticing Tez. “I think it would help keep you warm, don’t you agree?” Rowan also looked back subtly.
She pursed her lips before quickly slipping onto his back, wrapping her arms around his neck playfully.
He would feel her rest her temple against his. “See? You’re benevolent,” she said quietly. Rowan turned to look at them. “Okay. Lesson two in couple’s counseling. Describe what you mean to each other.”
Zerras squinted, looking a little confused. "How do you mean?" Tez looked back at him, her head tilted. "Sort of like how they make you feel.. For me, Rowan is the love of my life and he means the world to me." Zerras exhaled slowly, tipping his head back. "Okay.. June. You make every day feel like a brand new and exciting adventure and I wouldn't be anywhere without you."
She fell silent before Rowan spoke. “Now you, June.” June hesitated, letting go of Zerras’ neck before speaking quietly. “I think... I think you might be my best friend,” she said softly, looking up at him. “I feel like things are... I don’t know. I feel like things are wrong when you aren’t around or incomplete or something. I can’t imagine not having you around.”
She smiled back up at him, her brows furrowed uncertainly. "Alright! Step three! Tez, tell them what step three is," Rowan said.
June laughed nervously. "Uh... I mean, I don't imagine I'm going to be in Z's life for much longer, but... I don't know. I'd like to be someone he trusts. I'd like to be someone he knows cares about him and someone he can rely upon, I suppose. Is that what you're asking?"
Tez nodded, looking please with this. "That's perfect. And you?" she asked, looking to Zerras, which frowned. "I'd like to be someone she can depend on, and someone who will always have her back or make her happy or get her out of sticky situations."
