She looked at him with a frown. “You already are all that,” she said. Rowan spoke up, rubbing his hands together. “Okay! Part four. This one’s a fun one. On the count of three, both of you say why you think you two are not dating.”
She looked embarrassed, folding her arms. “My type? I don’t think I have a type. I like boys who are kind, I suppose. And boys who make me laugh.” She shrugged a little. “Isn’t that what everyone wants? It should just be easy when you talk to them, you know?”
"I suppose," she said thoughtfully, taking Rowan's hand again. "What about you, Zerras?" He looked uncomfortable, his eyebrow raised stubbornly. "I don't know. I guess the same as June. This doesn't really feel fair. You don't know us."
“You two don’t really seem to know each other,” Rowan pointed out. “Next round, same rules as the last one. At the same time, both of you answer the question. If the other person asked you to be their significant other, would you say yes?”
Juniper laughed a little, raising one eyebrow. “That’s a silly question anyway. Z would never. As soon as the adventure’s over, we’re not going to see each other again.”
She looked up at him in surprise. “Well... you know. You’re going up to the mountains and I’m staying on the farm. Remember?”
"I told you I don't know where I'm going," he said with a small frown. "You wanted me on the farm, anyways."
She nodded, taking his hand. “I do! Of course I do. But that doesn’t really change the fact that you’re not going to be asking me to be your girlfriend anytime soon. You would never.”
June was still watching him, frowning. “...what?” Rowan laughed a little. “Maybe you want to start shifting your mind, elf. I don’t think it’s as impossible as you seemed to believe.”
He seemed unsure. Tez pointed into the distance. "There's the city. You can sort of see it through the gloom."
It was huge. White and gold spires towered high, the main castle glistened brightly. There was plenty of smaller buildings surrounding it, and it seemed alive with life.
