She paused for a moment before nosing her way under his arm, avoiding his gaze as if to do the action subtly. "I think it's sweet."
She laughed, her ears perking up with the action. "Yeah," she said lightly, looking up at him. "I do."
She nodded, pulling away from him as she laid down in her spot, lying on her side and watching him thoughtfully.
He didn't seem to notice her gaze as he stretched his arms over his head with a small yawn before getting onto his spot as well.
She smiled a little, studying him affectionately for a moment before closing her eyes, choosing to give him space. She had been reflecting on this, noticing that she was often the one instigating the touch, and she briefly had considered that she made him uncomfortable. This little thought had been swirling around her head. She knew that his arms were okay, but she had a hard time believing he didn't dislike the embrace-like contact they had throughout the nights.
He remained where he was, his eyes closed as he tried to sleep. He didn't seem the kind to hug her while awake, as it may have been seen as forward, but didn't seem to mind as he slept.
His inaction seemed to serve as a confirmation to her, and she gave a little sigh, shifting on the bedroll and slowly beginning to drift off to sleep. Her brows were furrowed as she processed this new information.
It wasn't long after he slept that she would feel his arms reach out and wrap around her, pulling her close.
Her eyes flew open for a moment and she looked up at him. A small smile threatened her lips and she blinked, looking down in embarrassment before she rested her head in the curve of his neck, noticing how nice it felt there. “I think you’re wonderful, Z,” she said quietly.
The next day the sun began to rise, painting the sky a light purple. Reeve bent down, letting the sand fall from his fingers as he stared across the lake with malice. He still had a ways to go.
She shifted sleepily, her hand moving up to cup the back of his head gently, her fingers brushing through his hair.
His eyes fluttered and he tensed slightly as he felt her, but quickly relaxed, closing his eyes again with a small sigh.
There was a silence before he’d feel her wake up, a little stillness that would fall over her. “Mm... Z?”
