She tucked her hair behind her ear. She had started to get a few freckles from being out in the sun for so many days, particularly on the bridge of her nose, the back of her neck, and the tips of her ears. She looked up at him cheerfully, her eyes crinkling in the corners as her lips curved up in a small smile. “Yeah. You must be eager to get your hearthstone back.”
She rested her temple against the side of his chest. “A little,” she said, laughing wistfully. “But as long as they’re being taken care of, I’m okay.”
She nodded, setting her bag on the ground with a small sigh. She began to clear out a fire pit, the granules of sand slipping through her fingers. Her hands were small, and she laughed a little as the sand fell back into place like displaced water. “What kind of magic did you specialize in, Z?”
She seemed intrigued, lighting the fire easily before looking over at him. “How does Earth magic work?”
Her eyes widened in interest, her dark eyelashes across her cheek as she blinked a few times. “Oh!” She positioned herself thoughtfully. “It’s very... grounded.”
She closed her eyes for a moment, putting her hand on the ground, trying to do something with earth magic.
It would be difficult to adjust to. Her sweet personality didn't mesh well with the forcefulness needed to push the rock. However, her previous knowledge seemed to aid her, and she would feel the ground beneath her shift.
She exhaled slowly, her fingers curling against the sand as her ears perked up. “This one...” she murmured. “This one is hard...”
She opened her eyes, looking up at him thoughtfully before she stood and took the bedroll, beginning to unwind it. “We’re a strange pair...”
She relaxed, looking up at him as she sat on the bedroll. “Yeah,” she agreed quietly, leaning back on her hands. “We do.”
