She rolled her eyes, continuing working. (Zoop!) That night, he was alone in the guesthouse. They had finished the day’s work. June had told him that she would have to sleep in the house until her family knew that they were together. It had been a busy, but rewarding day.
Zerras allowed himself to relax, sitting on the edge of the bed with a small yawn. He ran a hand through his hair before lying back, stretching his arms out.
Juniper was standing there, wearing her pink cloak. She was wearing pajamas, her ears pricked up curiously. “Hi,” she said with a self-conscious laugh. “I, uh... I missed you, but if you want alone time, I can go back to the farmhouse...”
His gaze softened and he tilted his head. "I'd love to have you with me, Juni, but don't you think it's a better idea to stay with your family for now?"
“They’re all asleep,” she said, slipping off her hood. She paused, looking self-conscious as she stepped back. “Sorry. I don’t know why I thought... I’ll head back.”
She pursed her lips, her gaze growing a little distant as she pulled back from him. For a moment, she looked exactly like her mother. “Right,” she agreed, sounding falsely cheery. “Soon. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
He frowned but took her hand. "I don't want you to get in trouble," he told her quietly, kissing the back of it. "I always want you near, but I think it's safer if you stay with the rest of your family, okay?"
She frowned at him, her brow furrowing as she shook her head slowly. “I’m just being selfish,” she said quietly. She pulled her hand from his grasp, slipping her hood back up as rain began to fall overhead. “It’s fine. Bye.”
He tilted his head for a moment. "June, wait," he called, going back to grab something. He returned after a moment, offering one of his shirts. "I know it's not perfect, but.."
She looked down at the shirt for a moment before looking up at him, her eyes softening before she came over to him, slipping her arms around his neck and kissing him deeply.
Her hands came up, one cupping his jaw and the other running through his hair. She pulled away after a second, studying him. “I love you,” she told him quietly.
