Oh, this episode made me bawl on my pillow. :'( Poor Twi! I just wanted to lock myself in my room and be mad at the world for her... haha! I'm so lame, but yeah.
I honestly really loved this episode! Between the song and the hilarious Rarity scene I love it so much I'm just confused about how Pinkie cracks the ice from when she was a filly but she was on her families rock farm when she was a filly LOL
Overall, it was very good, with the story of Twilight trying to find her place in a new town where everyone already seemed to know what to do and how to do it. The song, which I'm sure I will be humming every March for years to come now, was also perfectly executed, perfectly timed, and perfectly catchy. But one thing bothered me, and that was how Applejack told off Twilight after the snow clearing fiasco. Granted, Applejack was probably mad as hay, and the tradition of not using magic for Winter Wrap Up stretched back longer than Ponyville had existed (as it was her family farm that became the start of the town) but to yell at Twilight for using magic when Applejack knew darn well that was what she did best and had accepted her magical help on the farm before (in Applebuck Season) just rubbed me the wrong way.
Yeah, that didn't sit well with me, either. I think that's just some of the good oldfashioned pony-racism rearing its ugly head. Hmm, I wonder why the show never really addressed that (outside of the Hearth's Warming Eve story, that is).
It's funny to be talking about this episode again in the summertime. Among one of the Season 1 episodes that have actually held up well to me it is, I still find it amusing and I still love the song.
I think this one episode is a milestone for FiM. This song held up strong for a decade. It's pretty much the definition of what musical numbers should be in FiM. And it's full of early FiM vibes. What the show was. How slice of life episodes were meant to be.
