Season 3 Episode 5: Magic Duel

But yeah calling it now, Trixie's evil amulet becomes to much for her to control & Twy has to save her.

Also, basically IMO Trixie is Twilight's Nightmare Moon, just as Luna was envious of Celestia in the past, Trixie is Jealous of Twilight, so obviously this episode will mist likely end in a same manner as the pilot 2-parter. Although I assume Trixie will still be Twilights Rival, just a more friendly one, kind of like Goku & Vegeta eventually became in DBZ, frinimies if you will.

But ahh, thats just my humble opinion. Can't wait to watch the episode come Saturday.

And also on a pony related note, can't wait to read the first issue of the MLP:FIM comic tomorrow! WOOHOO!!!

 

I've been hoping that Trixie would return at some point even before I heard about this episode on Equestria Daily last month so yeah I am very excited.

 

She's evil as hell. wtf?! Looks like she's cheatin' to me. I'm very curious to see how this episode plays out.

 

what I saw in spoilers, is not really what I expected. I kinda hope Trixie would turn to good, however, it seems like that's not the case.

I wouldn't rule it out. I like to think "One Bad Apple" was foreshadowing that other antagonistic ponies will eventually become good as the series goes on as well. I mean as Awesome as Trixie looks in that black cloak with that amulet, she's NOT a super-villian level enemy *like Discord, Chrysalis, Sombra* she's just a Jaded Braggart. I expect her to turn back to normal by the end of the episode, which while I doubt she'll ever be a "good guy" I do think depending on how the episode goes, her & Twy could bury the hatchet and become more friendly rivals, cause if it just ends up with her running off again, I for one will be very VERY disappointed.

IMO the whole point of letting her run off at the end of Boast Busters was so when/if she did come back, even if she was antagonistic again at first, she would learn her lesson in the long run. But, thats just my opinion.

 

well, I see that lot of bronies are saying that morals of this episode will be "even enemies can be friends", but problem about that ending is that that was already done in episode Over the Barrel in season 1 (Ponies and Buffaloes). I doubt they would do same morals twice.
However, I expect some kind of happy ending (since this is mlp, not some japanese anime), and I suppose they will come up with something original that we wouldn't expect, even with all the spoilers.

 

I'm guessing the moral will be something like "revenge won't make you truly happy" "vengeance gets you no where" or "don't let your hatred consume you" or something like that.

I'm not looking too forward to this. It seems too Fan-service-y to me...

 

Fan-servicy, so All the ponies will be in sexy Bikini's all throughout the episode?

Seriously, dunno why people keep saying this, the writers themselves have said they had planned to do more stories with Trixie all along, heck she was originally supposed to come back in season 2, but they couldn't fit the story in then, so they moved her comeback to season 3. Seriously people, bringing character back in IS NOT FANSERVICE, its called character/world development, its what shows do to keep from stagnating &/or degrading in quality. MLP is a growing world with lots of characters to use, just because the Mane Six & CMC are the primary focus, doesn't mean they are the only ones that can show up or matter, we have an entire world to explore, and we've still only scratched the surface, theirs countless one-shot, side & background character to develop, many cities/towns for the ponies to visit that so far we have only heard of in name. etc, etc & so on.

Basically what i'm saying, if world building, and character development are fan-service, then thats a type of fan-service i'll gladly indulge in, in highly excess amounts!

 

I am not a big fan of Twixie, but I so want to see this episode. I can agree that Twixie might become a half-friend/half-rival character at the end. She does have the talent to be good competition to Twilight.

well, you both are kinda right here.

Yes, I remember that Laurent Faust herself, said in one if the interviews done with her, that she, and rest of story writers wanted to make more Luna episodes and more Trixie episode, but since Luna was too dark (although good), and Trixie is kinda villain-ish, Hasbro wasn't too happy with the idea.
However, when they found that older people watch mlp too, Hasbro became less strict on storyline. (that's why we had Luna episode in season 2, and, well,Trixie didn't fit into storyline, so they moved her to season 3).
So yes, in a way, fans did influence return of Trixie, but her return was originally planed anyway, bronies, in a way, just enabled it.

 

I think, regarding darker storylines, that the S2 finale kind of let the cat out of the bag, so to speak. Hard to top a hideous shape-shifting succubus that planned on letting her insectoid underlings devour all of the love in Canterlot. Don't forget her nearly killing Celestia and sealing her in some kind of freaky cocoon. Oh, and basically threatening to leave the show's main character in a dungeon to rot.

Regardless of whether or not you liked the S3 premiere, you have to admit there was a change in tone. Evil hate magic, an otherworldly Sauron-like enemy that was intent on enslaving an entire civilization, the enchanted door that tortured people with their worst fears, etc. I think the writers can probably explore almost anything that doesn't involve the death of a major or minor character (will never happen on MLP) or controversial social topics.

I doubt the show will ever address the reality of death in any form (if you don't count Twilight impaling that bird on her horn in Lesson Zero that somehow managed to slip under the radar)

 

All of season 2 and 3 was basically fanservice. Don't think for one second season 2 would have been like that if bronies didn't exist. :derpeMaybe there wouldn't even be a season 2)

 

I'm hyped for this episode.

 

Weren't the other generations only like 1 season? I thought I heard that somewhere before, but I'm too lazy to google it.
