Glad your warming up on the episode. And yeah Dash did change her tune both ways abit too quick at the end, but hey she's been dreaming of becoming a Wonderbolt her whole life, no reason to give up on your dream just because your partner was a jerk and your Drill SGT wasn't as good as she should have been. Also @TB: YEs the Pinkiedash was strong with this episode XD.
Agreed Wonderbolts Academy was a very good episode, Lightning Dust was a interesting character and acted very much like Rainbow Dash except she has no honor or loyalty plus I liked seeing Roid Rage, Cloudchaser and Thunderlane again my only complaint is why did Spitfire sound different this episode did Maryske Hendryske have a cold or something?
Great episode. It had really great Rainbow Dash. Though I did kind of feel Spitfire was too harsh, but hey, maybe she acts differently while attending Gala's than at work. I mean it, Rainbow was awesome in this episode. Lightning Dust, well I guess that is what Dash haters think she is like. Ok, I can totally imagine Pinkie has a crush on Dash from this episode.
You know I wonder if Lightning Dust will become RD's Trixie and come back for revenge in a later season, or better yet, team-up with Gilda and come back for Double revenge! MUHAHAHA!!! Now that, would be an awesome episode! Also I believe Spitfire was voiced by someone else this time around *goes to check* Yep, she was voiced by Kelly Metzger this episode. Not surprising though Hendryske was probably busy working on the dub for the next season of Black Lagoon which Funimation is releasing next year, so they had to get a similar sounding voice. And Lightning Dust was voiced by a gal named Britt Irvin
It was an okay episode. I really didn't like the new Spitfire who didn't even recognize Rainbow Dash's past successes. Again, no Soarin'....was he kicked off the team?
@DBZ: No Prob @Zepyhr: Again it would have been unproffessional for Spitfire to acknowledge Dash or give her special treatment just because of her status as an element barrier or their past brief interactions. Edit: Dunno if i'm in the minority or not, but the more I watch this episode, the more I like. I also have an increasing urge to go out and buy copies of Police Academy & Top Gun XD.
Why this is was a good episode for me at least is that it reminded me of a military boot camp I went to in 2005 called Thunderbird. Since the episode was based to be like basic training in the Air Force (despite taking a lot of Army influence). I enjoyed to see Rainbow Dash evolved and I betting there will be a lot of DashXPie fanficts. They are my two favorite after all. For some reason Lightning Dust reminds me a lot of Gilda, a former friend of RD, who had to have RD set her straight and will most likely be another Trixie for RD. I actually like how Spitfire treated Rainbow Dash can understand whole-heartily, she treated RD below the others in hope to push RD to be a better and more talented flyer. It's basically a military technique for intimidation to push a person's full potential. For some reason, Rarity's hug made me smile.
Yeah seeing Rarity hug Thunderlane who saved her life was very sweet and cute I bet soon we are going to see RariThunder shipping stories soon.
I really loved this episode... it showed to me that rainbow is still not only interested in success, but also that she cares even more for her friends. Thats something i like overall a 9/10 for me
I honestly liked Lightning Dust up until she started acting like a jerk. So I believe she just got 'caught up in the moment' if ya know what I mean
@Tempets: Yeah I feel kind of sorry for her as well, but not to sorry, she should have known such brash & reckless actions would eventually come back to bite her. Also Anyone else glad to see Dash's character actually grow this season, her season 2 episodes were kind of lack luster, but between Sleepless In Ponyville & Wonderbolts academy we really have seen the more positive sides of her persona, seems our little Dashie is growing up. Not only has she taken a younger filly under her wing which will undoubtedly make her a more responsible person, she's also a Wonderbolt in training, between her new found positions, I wonder if this means we may possibly see a drastic change/growth in her personality in future seasons. Not to drastic though, but I could see her becoming a bit more serious, I mean I would imagine a mixture of what is essentially military training and mentorship/sisterhood of a young filly will probably make Dash mature fairly quickly, but thats just me speculating.
I must be the only one who likes RD's cockiness, She seems to make it work for her, usually I hate cocky characters in any series, but RD does a great job with it. I do hope she matures though but occasionally bring it back.
Oh i'm fine with the cockyness. I think overall though since the show is about characters growing and learning from their experiences It would be reasonable to think we would get a more balance representation of Dash in the future that is to say we will see caring and mature dash just as often as cocky fun loving dash. Or something like that.
Rainbow Dash really has grown up and learned alot since her first appearance in the show, Sleepless in Ponyville and Wonderbolt Academy have reminded me why Rainbow Dash is my third favorite Mane Six pony she is just "so awesome." (squishes face like Rainbow Dash in Applebuck Season)
