Seriously? That's just ridiculous... Although it does possibly explain why Avatar and Pocahontas are the same thing...
This episode was so awesome!! I loved it. The way the characters played off each other for comedy was fantastic. Exploring the old castle was really neat to see and Pinkie was actually funny this time around unlike the premier. Like that they are already talking about the box and are doing this journal thing! Cannot wait for the next episode! 9.5/10
I had almost forgotten that some people decided to wait to watch the episode. I was really happy to see a return to the castle, and the part where Twilight finds Celestia's old diary was a nice touch. I'm wondering how much Equestrian history the writers plan on filling in this season?
I enjoyed it. Very funny, with just enough new information to keep it from being a filler episode. Not sure if I like the new device for transcribing moral lessons ("Dear Diary, today I learned..." BLAH BLAH BLAH), but overall it was another strong episode. Season 4 is off to a very good start
I try to avoid spoilers as much as possible, because it's just more fun going in without knowing what's going to happen, it's hard though. Since really the only way to have it spoiler free is to avoid all pony sites, and that just ain't gonna happen. Also I guess it was leaked early? Anywho I heard Castle Mane-ia and it conjured all kinds of images, so was pretty interested to see how it would play out. I like anything that changes what has been established as the norm for shows, holiday specials, alternate universes etc, even if it's just ambiance. Though we could have used this episode a month ago, I can totally see myself watching it along with Luna Eclipsed next Halloween. Yeah parts were predictable, everyone in the chat I was watching knew it was going to be Pinkie at the end, part of me though was hoping for Luna or Celestia. Another part of me was really hoping for Trixie, would have been the perfect stage to bring her back as a regular in my opinion. Still though the obvious didn't take away from the enjoyment of the episode, for me anyway, but I'm pretty easy to please. The animation particularly was well done, setting and keeping that creepy old dark castle theme throughout. So now I guess the journal is going to replace the letters as the summation of the episode / morals now? I know some people didn't really care for the letters to Celestia parts, but I personally never minded them, even found them enjoyable at times. I also wonder about the shadow pony at the end, was it just thrown in as an ironic twist, or foreshadowing of future events? Overall I really enjoyed it, and am looking forward to seeing what comes next.
I'll admit it; I cracked and watched the leaked version. I'm a sucker for spoilers. Anyhoo, I thought the episode used a very good comedy device in that everypony was there but they didn't know it. What you would call that, I don't know but it worked in Scooby Doo episodes and it worked in MLP. Even when I watched the leaked episode, I had a feeling that it was Pinkie playing the organ but I still got a kick out of the reveal. Also, ship fuel with RD and AJ! I'm not into the whole shipping thing but I knew that it would give the ones who are some more ammo. And finally, now we know what is going to bring the whole moral of each episode together... the journal! I like where this season is going. Keep up the good work, writers!!
I really enjoyed the Scooby Doo reference, as well as the comedy in this episode and it was fun seeing the old castle again all together my only complaint is that the Pony of Shadows that was mentioned in the episode wasn't real.
Not necessarily. This is a kids show after all. How many times did they do the exact same thing on Scooby-Doo and it never amounted to anything? Anywho, about the journal. This I actually thought was a pretty great idea. It's a perfect solution to keeping the whole "writing to Celestia about the lessons you've learned" thing going now that Twilight is a princess and no longer technically Celestia's student anymore. Also: Applejack going "oOooOOoo", Rarity being awesome Rarity and doing Rarity stuff and of course every episode needs more Angel. The whole Scooby-Dooish running around the castle thing is a bit of a comedy cliche, but all in all an enjoyable episode. I especially appreciate all the added Equestria lore they've been throwing in. Intriguing stuff.
I still don't get why Celestia wanted a hall oh disembodied hooves. Why did Celestia have a hall of disembodied hooves? ... Anyway. Another awesome episode! It was funny, and enjoyable, though perhaps kinda predictable- guessed it'd be pinky on the organ from the moment she wasn't in the castle with the rest of the group. Nonetheless, so glad to see the quality of animation, writing, etc seems to be carrying through the season so far, and really looking forward to the rest of the season now!
Woah, that was one cool ending, eh? The style of writing is definitely improving, or we're changing the target demographic ... nah. While used to having things all wrapped up at the end of every episode, this one strays off a bit leaving you wondering what or who this mystery pony is. It looked like Zecora but who knows. The animation is still really good. Can't believe we went yet again without a song. I need to hear somepony singing!!! lol I like how they're incorporating the old castle into the series. I wonder if Celestia plans on giving Twilight the old castle >-> hmm. Another good episode. Can't wait for next weeks!!
I think the Pony Of Shadows at the end will turn out to be Trixie. We don't know what happened to her after she was defeated last time, so it's entirely plausible she might have set up shop in the old castle to practice her magic where no one would bother her. FAN THEORY: When we see her again, she will be a legitimately great wizard with some part to play in the upcoming storyline. Twilight will be willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but Rainbow Dash (and possibly others) won't trust her and insist she has an ulterior motive for helping them. This will turn out not to be the case, but the mistrust and suspicion will cause Trixie to turn back towards villainy. Twilight will attempt to talk her out of this, but it will be too little, too late.
Season 4 is off to a great start, a lot like season 2. This was a really good episode. It gave most of the main cast a good amount of screentime, it gave us some more world building, and it had some pretty funny moments. Nothing to hate on here.
