To help one of my closer friends, yeah, probably. It's what Rarity and Applejack and to an extent Pinkie were trying to do for Twi. Looking back, she never promised to keep "trouble" away from Twi and Cadance the way Rarity and Applejack did. However, if she was so adverse to Discord in particular, she should have left before he had the chance to ask for the "favor" he was obviously going to ask for, rather than chatting him up as if she did consider Discord even somewhat of a friend.
I think Applejack was always the most distrusting of Discord (and she's the only one who really objected to returning the EoH) As for Rarity, it's one thing to be generous, but another thing entirely to offer to do something you're not capable of (like refusing to babysit the Cake twins). I don't really think generosity is even a factor here.
I honestly didn't like this episode. It was predictable to the point of being boring (which is surprising considering that this was a Discord episode) and very annoying. Also, Pinkie (who I usually like) reached a new level of stupidity, bordering on braindead. Congratulations Episode 11, you're my new least favorite episode of the season. On the plus side, Cadance was really cute throughout the episode and I really liked the Flash Sentry cameo, however tiny it was.
I love discord and any episode with cadence is a good episode. Except this one... I really dont like that discord kind of seemed like a huge dick in this one. He should be fun and chaotic. I mean, I understand he was "sick"... But still... He seemed WAY too calm and predictable... I didn't really like the song... And it only added more to the ever growing unsolved questions... This was also just a very poorly written and stereotypical episode... but on the bright side, new creature, cadence, crystal pegasus, epic crystal train, tuba pony, and cameo appearance from what looked like flash sentry i find that the bad kind of outweighed the good this week... Hopefully next week will be better.
Rarity and Applejack at least tried and Pinkie was more than willing to help. Rainbow Dash ran. Although Pinkie's apparent ADHD was one of the high points of the show, I found it funny and used well without having to go to in depth on it. Also, we don't know what cured AJ and Rarity. Cadance and Twilight did get the flower for the cure and for all we know they used it to cure those two. Discord repeatedly refers to himself as friends to ALL the mane six in the episode. He is more and more just reminding me of Q if Picard would have put up with all the crap Q gave him. Picard didn't put up with it and neither should the ponies.
He wasn't even really sick, he really was just being a dick to "test" twilight on her "friendship." I'd say forced friendship isn't friendship at all. They just made him out to be an *******.
This episode was ok, but not one of the better ones. I'm indifferent to the Flash Sentry cameo, but I guess at least they're making an effort to tie in some of the EqG characters. Now to wait for a Sunset Shimmer cameo. I'm severely disappointed in how they wrote Rainbow Dash this episode. It all felt way too forced from how we've seen her act in the past. I'm curious now if Meghan McCarthy has written all the "Rainbow Dash acts like a jerk" themed episodes. The others also seemed forced, but they have felt like that to me any episode where Discord is now his "reformed" self. Good to see Pinkie hasn't developed globophobia (fear of balloons) ever since Discord was introduced. The episode was incredibly predictable once Discord made an appearance. At first, I was hoping for some kind of new entity in the beginning. I figured the Blue Flu was fake, but it was confirmed for me pretty quickly when Rainbow Dash was sneezed on and didn't get sick, but it immediately affected Applejack and Rarity. The rest of the episode just dragged from there, once you figured out the "secret" premise of the episode. Perhaps it was more enjoyable for younger viewers, since they haven't learned to be cynical of things like others faking illness to get what they want yet. The song was ok. I feel like they're just making the songs crazy for the fandom musicians who are still around to even attempt to remix. I know a few of them have just outright refused to attempt some of the songs this season. Throw our musicians a bone, Hasbro! I did enjoy seeing Princess Cadence again, and felt like she really pulled her weight to make the episode enjoyable. The crystal pegasus and crystal train were really cool to see. I also really liked the new creature and its design. I wonder if they will do an episode about Fluttershy's trip to investigate Breezies. Also, yay for older generation lore and creatures! Perhaps we will one day see some seaponies.
Look around at your group of friends; if you can't point out which one is the ********, it's probably you. (Looks around- OMG no! I'm the *******) Which is probably why I like Discord so much. People tend to forget, the dudes never had a friend before Fluttershy. He's over a thousand years old, pretty much omnipotent (and in the words of the great and powerful Q; "It's difficult to work in a group when you're omnipotent.") and Discord's be set in his ways for a long time. He doesn't really understand what's ok behavior and how you should treat a friend. I think I can accept his douchbaggery more than Rainbow Dash because Rainbow Dash knows better. I get the sense from Discord that he doesn't know he's being an ass and also that he thought he was truly putting Twilight through a completely reasonable and normal 'friends test'. I wish the ending had been more concrete on whether Twilight helped him as a friend or just because she felt obligated. The moral was sort of lost at the end. But I have to say, instant karma was awesome when Discord actually got sick. I can't tell if it's my head canons running away from me. But sometimes I get the feeling that Discord is trying to teach Twilight something important, but he goes about is some back asswards way and it's lost on her.
Implying that Discord was acting like a jerk out of ignorance, when in the episode he pretty much openly admits that his goal was to ruin Twilight's and Cadance's day. You know, there's head-canon, and then there's downright denial. I wouldn't even have minded so much if he had been his usual entertaining self, but this time, he was just a jerk for the sake of being a jerk. So annoying.
I didn't find this episode particularly great, but still somewhat enjoyable nonetheless. Discord was unfortunately predictable in this, I'd called it as soon as I seen him that he was faking his illness and will want Twilight to "nurse him back to health" with one of her spells, just in an attempt to ruin her day.
That's implying Fluttershy is stupid for trusting him, which I imagine she doesn't entirely trust him. You can be friends with someone you don't particularly trust, just take that fact into consideration when talking to them. Thought it was a little dumb of her to mention Cadance visiting Twilight in a letter to him. That's not necessarily any of his business, is it?
I think of it as naiveté from Fluttershy, which fits into her character. Discord takes advantage of it as fits his character. He's still a jerk though.
But he's a loveable jerk! You have to remember that he's a spirit of chaos and disharmony. A complete heel-face turn for such a character is almost impossible.
One thing I did like was how they brought up twice that they don't know where Discord lives. I hope that becomes a running gag where they always wonder where he lives and it never gets explained. And I guess it makes some sense... he's trying to create some amounts of Chaos to satisfy his needs for such as a Draconequus, but why he has to trick "his friends" and explain it away as "testing them" is lost on me. It's just pretty dumb.
Discord imo should be capable of taking on a role as "prankster" to suit his character and not be a douchebag at the same time. It's just that right now his pranks went way too far.
Way too far? Pretending to be sick is taking it way too far? You must not have seen the world all that much... Anyways, I don't have much to say about the episode other than it is the best episode. Period.
The thing that got me about this was when Fluttershy was talking about the Breezies. Will there be an episode on them? I'd like to see how G4 treats them.
I wonder, since we've been seeing what are certainly keys for Rarity and Rainbow Dash so far, if we need to see Twilight obtain a key as well. Her element is/was Magic, which is heavily tied in with Friendship. So maybe testing her friendship is how she's supposed to get a key? If we're going off the idea that Discord could be working for Celestia in some way, perhaps he's supposed to put Twilight's friendship to the test so that she'll be able to obtain one of the keys.
