Best cello pony made the episode ∴ 11/10 best episode to date. Yeah, but really, fair episode 5-6/10. Not the strongest of stories. The Rarity breakdown was good, though.
Rarity turned somebody into Octavia? Or did she just switch them out? Either way, she turned a wind instrument playing pony into a string instrument playing pony, and that shall never be forgiven by me. I know it was a strange alphorn type thing, but gosh, Rarity, it could have been changed to a French horn or an oboe. Are those not sophisticated enough for you? *focused on something completely random that only I care about*
Maybe not the best of the season, but I'd say it still was very enjoyable. I liked the Aladdin reference where the staircase was falling apart. I'll give it a 6.5/10.
Octavia and Rarity being able to put away six tubs of ice cream and keep her physique were the only things that interested me in this.
i think this episode would have been better if it was a applejack episode (she is the element of honety after all)
Okay first things first. This was not a rarity episode.!this was a spike episode. While I do admit that spike has been predictable this season as the guy who causes all the problems, I think that he was handled very well in this episode. Usually he just causes trouble, but this time he was just trying to be a good friend and help his crush, but to quote Prismo "sometimes a well-intentioned wish can lead to... Nuts..." I must say that I loved the owl in this (avoiding his name cuz idk how to spell it) as the jiminy cricket type character. It's been a while since we've had an episode where spike's mistake actually carried some weight for him. I must say that that book should have obviously been an obvious "do not touch" thing... It was a moderately predictable episode and that wasn't the rarity I know... I like the lesson spike learned... Theres a difference between being supportive and being an enabler I know from experience that there is a fine, very important distinction there. 9/10.
It's about time Spike got an episode. He got more screen time in this one episode than he has throughout the last two seasons. I also thoroughly enjoyed Rarity's psychotic break down (I guess) that was caused due to the book. I'm a little disappointed in the Princesses for leaving something that powerful in a room guarded by nothing more than a cheap lock and a few mild traps. It's a book that can conjure material based on your own design. Just think if somepony like Queen Chrysalis got her hooves on that book, let alone the fact that the elements are gone. Equestria would be doomed. Hopefully the Princesses learn their lesson and remove all the dangerous artifacts from the old ruins before somepony else gets in trouble. I thought it was cool to see 'Tavi in this episode. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Rarity just conjured an Octavia, cello and all. You don't just conjure an Octavia, even with dark magic. Hasbro couldn't conjure Octavia for how many episodes has it been now? I don't think Rarity should have been able to accomplish it in a single day. Overall it was a pretty decent episode. I was disappointed due to the lack of the CMC (they would've been a good side-bit for this episode) and the fact Spike swallowed a book of dark magic to no consequence. Shouldn't he be sprouting fungus or something? Anyway, it was a good episode and as always I can't wait for next weeks installment.
Oh my gosh I have time to post (somewhat) again! I caught up on the episode last night, and there were some things I liked about it. I'm happy they finally gave Spike some decent screen time and character development. He's just been the bumbling sidekick who messes everything up for a while now, so it was good that he got an episode that made him realize that this isn't the case. Owlowiscious proved that he is the best pet, and that he has more common sense than a baby dragon. I think he knows more than the creators let on, so it would be interesting to have an episode where he was suddenly able to speak. I have to agree with Ridley Wolf that Rarity has been making questionable fashion choices this season. I guess in her defense with this episode, she was possessed, so it wasn't technically her fashion decisions after a certain point. I do like that some form of dark magic has returned in the series, especially when there is potential for a new villain behind it all. Also, has anyone else noticed that dark magic seems to involve some form of vapor? Equestria should just invest in some industrial strength fans.
Spike did still kind of screw up, you know. He could have NOT picked up the book that was obviously evil (and hidden away for a reason). And if not that, he could have told Rarity much sooner.
I feel like one of the things people keep forgetting is that Spike is a baby dragon. Until Twilight and Spike made the move to Ponyville, the Season 1 opening episode made it seem like Twilight sheltered both herself and Spike from the outside world quite a bit. Add that on to the fact that Spike is still a baby, I'm chalking this episode up to naïvetè. Spike simply hasn't been around long enough to understand the book was likely locked away for an important reason. There is also the fact that he was acting impulsively to impress his crush. I thought it was reasonable Spike acted the way he did in this episode.
Maybe, but i hardly see him as a "baby" dragon in the sense of acting like a baby, which obviously, he doesn't. I'd say he behaves like an average 9-10 year old. Then again, i guess 10 year olds still do dumb and/or impulsive things from time to time.
