I'm bisexual, and I have a couple of gender issues, but it's nothing I can't handle.

Right I will start off by saying that I have a close family member in the LGBT group, that being my Mam who is gay. Your probably saying "WTF wut chu talking about Arcus?" Put it simply My mam had suppressed feelings and went with my dad, spend 21 years with him and then came out. I believe since she was born in a time she was subjected to straight propaganda, being you find a husband, get married and have kids. She had this injected into her and so she believed that what she wanted when in fact it was the opposite.

I am rather happy she is because It made me feel secure and safe in my sexuality being gay myself.

What the heck is "straight propaganda?"

You're kinda making it sound like being straight is something that people are recruited into.

Well, you can't even begin to deny that we live in a society that wants to erase those of us who aren't straight. I don't know that 'straight propaganda' is the best wording, but the pressure that so many forces of society try to put on us to be straight can be incredibly high.

Well, there are those "pray away the gay" organizations that do literally try to turn people straight. So, that happens sometimes.

Have you ever considered that maybe what you're calling societal pressure is just your own anxieties about being different than most other people?

While there are a few people out there who would try to shame you for being gay, the truth is, most people don't care one way or another.
"Society" is basically a bunch of people who don't know you, never will know you, and don't really give a damn about you. To them, "gay" is just a buzzword that gets thrown around by politicians that only care about poll numbers and political donors.

Why should you care what they think?

"What the heck is "straight propaganda?"

Well as said before there are gay correction facilities, camps where you go and mentally and physically get tortured and as Dilly Star said there are organisations trying to "Pray away the gay." So where is there no Straight propaganda?

Mind you I am lucky that I live in a country where there is none of these organisations and groups but that doesn't mean there are idiots. Here in Ireland there was a TD who actually said that we don't need to give gays marriage because the money to run the referendum is better off spend on aids research..... as if only gays get aids.

Yes I don't care what people think but there are many of those who prosecute and attack us and that often leads to suicides, or attempted suicide and the repressed feelings my mam had are because of this. If she showed her true feelings she would most likely be put in jail and given hormone treatment since it was still Illegal in the 80's

Um... What if those people are your family/caretakers or other people who you care about the most? What if those people try to get you sent through gay conversion therapy. What if your family/community/everyone including you are a part of a religion that constantly tells you to hide those feelings because they are sinful. Additionally there is bullying and people who will outright harm you.

There are SOOOO many reasons as to why someone would hide this for so many years, even try to get into a straight relationship. They are pushed against their nature to conform to family/religious/societal norms. It doesn't work very well, but we can't just pretend like everything I mentioned above isn't happening, and that it can cause someone to hide.

And... You said most people won't care? Keyword 'most'. All it takes is ONE person who would bring physical harm to you, to matter. And I have no doubt that there are plenty of people out there like that. Especially where I live.

You know for some people it might be that, just a feeling that they are different because groups have massive shadows that cast doubt on them. But if anything its not the fear of these factions that cause them a feeling of ill will. Its the fear of their own groups like aulos has stated. What your families think, what your community thinks. And that majority of people that don't care, usually mean they don't care if its a thing that exists out there, but they will flip their views as soon as they find out if its in their own close groups of friends or family. To them it just sounds better if they don't have an opinion, no commitment, and they look like they hold a higher moral ground.

And you should really care what they think, especially people in politics, we've seen it so many times some one gets the peoples ear and then you have a whole nation supporting their cause.

I'm questioning myself. I have had attractions to mostly males but very rarely female, but yet I've also thought about gender that maybe I should identify as female before. I've tried those things before but I'm just not sure what I should do.

So I am attracted to both sexes. Basically everyone I know is aware of this.
Something that annoys me is whenever a straight male I know finds out, they get creeped out because they assume I'm attracted to THEM. Just because I'm bi doesn't mean I'm after everything with a pulse. Sorry to say, dude.

I am romantically interested in any gender, but I'm not sexually interested in no one (I have very personal reasons as to why).

In many countries, it's actually punishable by death to be gay, bi, etc. I'm not even joking. And the fact is that where I live (southern US) it is most people who care, and boy can they be cruel. It's not uncommon to hear about teens being killed for being suspected gay. These are people who haven't even come out in some cases, sometimes because they aren't gay, and they are attacked, killed, have their homes/vehicles vandalized, etc. And it's not considered a hate crime to assault or kill people for this reason in this area. They even tried to pass laws here to make it possible for businesses to refuse service to people for looking gay. There are constantly people saying it's unnatural, that we're trying to convert people into gayness, that we don't deserve to get married... this isn't stuff I see just online, I have seen it firsthand. I have heard people say that gay people don't deserve to be allowed to live in the US at all. It's really sad. :(

In a lot of places, it's extremely dangerous to be open about being gay. Some areas, not so much. And I wish the majority of the world was like that. Unfortunately it isn't. For that reason, I'm very open about being bi, because you have no idea how helpful that is to other people. I've had a lot of people come out to me in secret because they were scared of how their family, friends, and community would react but needed to come out to someone. Personally, I think the trend is that it is going to be more acceptable as time goes on and fewer people will care. It helps a lot when regular people and celebrities aren't ashamed of that aspect of themselves and don't hide it.

But you're right that people shouldn't care what others think. You can't change who you are. However, that also means you can't change whether or not you care what others think. People are opening up more (here in America, at least) and I think in time it will mostly be the person's own anxieties that are the problem. Unfortunately for now things are not so simple.

When I wrote that, I was only referring to people in the United States. And probably Canada and a few other countries.

And yeah, there are a lot of bigoted a-holes, especially here in the South and out West, but they're a minority, and their numbers are dwindling as more and more of them learn to stop being ignorant.

Well I'm just glad the U.S. passed a law for same-sex marriage in every state.

I, myself, am bisexual. In high school I came out as bisexual, scariest day of my life because I did not know how people would react. Luckily, some people were totally cool with it.

I found it had to believe that so many people have negative things to say about the LGBTQ community. People need to get off their high horse and realize things change for the better (most of the time).

I didn't come out until I started college. I think I was just too scared to think about it.

Ya it happens tho. Some people can be understanding whereas others are just plain rude. I see how people are to a transgender I follow on tumblr. I swear some people will never accept how others are.
