Are you a person that tries to look deep into the world, the characters, the themes of the show, and looks for consistency and deeper meaning? Are you quick to point out both flaws and cleverness that pass over others?

Yeah, I appreciate the show for it's simplicity and innocence, even if that simplicity is just an illusion created by my own inability to pick apart the underlying themes, storytelling devices and hidden meanings. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

Nah, I just enjoy the show. The rest just happens almost incidentally.

I scan the backgrounds for Easter eggs but don't have to dig too deep to get the references.

I like thinking about things in a certain degree of depth but do also feel that there is only so much that we can glean from this show at times.

I do sometimes. I write articles on them when I get a good one.

I did during season 1 but not anymore. There's so many people that analyze it there's really no point in doing it on my own anymore. Easter eggs seem a lot more in your face now.

I become critical when I see that the show is not adequately following through what it was created for, and when it starts pandering to an audience that it was never made for. Otherwise, I'm not critical at all. I watch the show just for fun.

Lauren Faust herself said that she made the show hoping that it would appeal to adults as well as children.
She did it so parents would watch with their children, as a family.

The show never had an unintended audience, because the intended audience was, and still is... everyone.

What she really said was that she wanted to make a show that the adults that got stuck watching with their children might not find unbearable. The concept of a real targeted audience does not dissolve with that statement.

What I take from this is that she set out to create a show that anybody could enjoy, regardless of age or gender.

    I'd say she succeeded.

She succeeded, but now it's nothing more than a kids' show. If the early show was like it is now, bronies probably wouldn't exist.

    Uh... well, color me confused.
What exactly makes it "nothing more than a kid's show?"

The only thing I seem to be 'critical' of is when they expect people to forgive/consider character 'redeemed' when they CLEARLY don't deserve it.

Most definitely so. Not to mention, from the looks of it, she disarmed a troll in the process with that post. I honestly agree with her. I don't mind people are not into the show or the merch sold by Hasbro. As long as they don't do what this jerk tried with Lauren, they are fine in my book.

I guess this was a bit lost in translation. Though I think it's not the show as much as Hasbro's toy line that kind of goes more for young girls. The show is still for everyone. Some may see it as nothing more than a kid's show and in some stretches it is. However, it's as you said Ridley, the show was created for all audiences and it's held well with that fact for some time. Yes, some stuff in it lately seems a bit... meh... but at least there is still some form of effort involved even with Lauren not directly holding the helm in it's creation as of late.

Now Ridley, isn't it a bit presumptuous of you to say you don't bother looking critically at the show, but then try and criticize other people who do for having opinions you disagree with? They've probably put some thought into it, and according to you, you haven't.
