"I don't know where we're going any better than you do!" she said, a little defensively. "I mean, perhaps we should explore the rest of this town? We know there are ponies here, but they don't exactly seem friendly..."
ace stepped back his face showing he was a little hurt by that first part "i was just trying to be nice max....you know mares first"
"Mares first out into the dangerous wasteland?" Max snapped, frowning. A moment later, her expression softened and her ears folded down. "I-I'm sorry." She said, looking away in shame. "I'm just a bit... apprehensive about this. It's wrong of me to take it out on you though; I know you were just trying to be nice."
(great now i feel bad) he thought as he moved forward and hugged her "your fine....its just stressful for you" he said
Max sighed as he hugged her. "It's stressful for you too; it's no excuse..." She took a deep breath. "Let's go; we can explore a few blocks, see how it goes. We can map our progress on my Pipbuck, and hopefully we'll find something useful."
"yes but im used to it" he said reminding her he had fought in the war "but your right lets go" he said staying within a foot of her as they walked
As they left the hospital, Max looked sadly at the skeletons outside the front door. "We should really do something with them," She said. "They don't deserve to be left lying out here, and if we do find anypony to bring back, they don't give a very good first impression."
"Unless it's nightmare night" ace said trying to cheer her up "But when we get back we can cremate them" After a few steps he stopped her by putting his hoof out in front of her "I think one of the snipers are still alive" he said pointing to trail of blood leading from where the snipers were to a different building
Max looked at the trail. "Don't kill them," She said, looking at Ace. "Unless we have to. I want to talk to them first; find out what they know, why they were shooting at us..."
Ace rolled his eyes "I'm not going to shoot them....if they don't shoot at us" he told her as he took the lead and pulled out his sword "but I'm not walking in there unprepared" Once they entered they could hear ragged breathing from a janitors closet next to the elevators where the blood trailed to
"I didn't say don't shoot them," Max whispered, as they moved slowly towards the sound, "Just don't kill them. They're probably terrified, just, I don't know... aim for their leg or something."
Ace raised his sword ready to stike as he opened the door He flung the door open hoping to find them off guard so they couldn't attack right away if they were still hostle Once the door opened it reviled a brown unicorn with a dark blue mane She looked to be almost out of her teenage years and had a bullet hole in her chest were her heart should be
"Oh my gosh!" Max cried, rushing to her side. She rummaged through her bags, and produced med-x and a couple of blood packs. She stuck the med-x in the mare's flank, and hooked up the blood packs as she closed the hole with her magic. "We've got to get her back!" She said desperately, looking at Ace. "I can't fix this here; I need proper tools and a clean environment to operate, or she'll die!"
"how she survive the night?" he asked out loud as he came over to her to pick the young mare up "and why isn't she dead...that shot went thru her heart"
"I think the bullet may have fractured on her armour or ribcage, only nicking her heart; with the right cocktail of drugs, that might be survivable, but not for long," Max said, looking at the empty psycho injectors and jet inhalers lying on the floor where the mare had been. "The effects will have worn off by now though, and ultimately they will have caused further damage," She explained, as they hurried back to the hospital.
((i was thinking that birth defect that makes it to where your hearts on the other side)) ace nodded and carried her back trying not to shack her too much as his white tank top slowly started to turn red
(Whoa. You're gonna have to PM me with any details like that, I'm not gonna be able to guess them ) Max grimaced, trying to stem the blood flow as best she could as they moved. The blood packs were emptying fast... "Take her up to the third floor," Max said, quickly, as they made it to the hospital. "Put her on a stretcher and leave her outside the room with the autodoc; I need to get out of this and into something clean," She ran off, heading for the laundry room.
ace nodded and made his way up her breathing was getting worse as he went and was making him want to rush up the stairs instead of use the elevator once the elevator opened he put her on the nearest stretcher and moved her to one of the autodocs
A few moment's later, Max came running up in doctor's scrubs, and wearing a face mask. "I can take it from here, but I might need an extra horn in there in a minute; can you go and get suited up as well?" She asked, as she wheeled the stretcher into the operating theatre. She slid the mare from the stretcher onto the table in the centre of the room, and got to work. She cut the mare's raged clothes back around the wound, to try and prevent any infection, and hooked up another couple of blood bags, the contents of the last two now making dark red trail up to the hospital doors. She stuck her patient with a proper sedative, just to be sure, then readied her tools and turned on the autodoc. The Autodoc was a fairly basic one, and basically performed the functions of a nurse; it couldn't perform full procedures on it's own, that would be up to Max. She inspected the wound closer, as the autodoc held a light, and realized her initial theory about how the mare was still alive was wrong; the bullet had passed through cleanly, right where her heart ought to be... Frowning, Max looked around a bit more, and spotted something beating weakly on the opposite side of her chest. The mare had been saved by a rare condition that killed many ponies at birth. Max shock her head in disbelief at the mare's luck...
Ace rolled his eyes and went to do what she asked him to When he got back he wasn't wearing the mask but he was wearing everything else "Ok now what?" He asked sitting by the door so he wouldn't breath on the mare
