So, Big Mac is getting a focus episode, and it got me to thinking: Why are the male characters so shallow compared to the female characters in this show? They're not nearly as developed as the females
Because the principle of the show was / is aimed at girls so it makes it more relatable, DBZ is aimed around male characters because it targets boys.
There was a whole discussion about this a while back. Hang on... Here: http://www.everypony.com/threads/male-allicorns.17134/ It started off being about male alicorns, but ultimately ended up being about the role of males in general within the show.
Think Shining will get any development? And I mean, Big Mac probably won't get as much as the Mane Six.
Big Mac has had a ton of character development for a third-tier character. -He's close with his family -He's a hard-worker -He's a hoofball fan -He sings in a popular local group -He dreams about having magic -He's easygoing and slow to anger -He kept the Smarty pants doll because he legitimately liked it. -He's good with tools
The male characters in the show don't get the kind of emphasis the female ones get. I don't really see that as being a weakness, given the cultural context of that particular choice, although it's certainly refreshing to see those neglected characters get their moment in the spotlight. Your new signature is lovely, by the way.
Big Mac's comic where he went on an adventure through a festival just to find some nails was pretty fun so...An episode like that could be a real treat.
