OK, before EVERYONE makes this joke, here goes...

Now that THAT's out of the way, onward to the review!!

Had a feeling about this episode when I read the synopsis, but I got a good laugh out of it nonetheless. I think it speaks a LOT to Big Mac's character that he would sacrifice his own dignity to help his little sis out. And then the feelz at the end... I'M BAWLING!!!!! No tidbits that I know of but I give this episode a solid 8/10!!!

That was... actually not bad! Compared to the other crap this season, this one actually had a relatable and well-written conflict and character interaction. I mean, the events of the episode were as dumb as they come, but the underlying motivations were totally legit. That ending scene was exactly what Somepony to Watch Over Me could have used to not be awful. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10, putting it in second place so far.

Once Big Mac showed up in drag, I couldn't stop from laughing, but, at times, asking myself "What the heck am I watching?!"

I always feel good when I laugh. :smile2:

Seeing Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo as "sisters" made me smile too. That was cute and very awesome of Rainbow Dash.

I kind of liked the ending too. Finally Big Mac spoke longer and in full sentences!! Amazing!! :twi:

    Another GREAT episode.

Finally he's back where he started!

And it's interesting, with the whole Dash/Scootaloo thing, I feel like most of the focus there is on Scootaloo being able to compete with Dash as her "sister" and how great it is for her. But it seems most people don't even think of it from Dash's perspective. Just imagine how many years Dash has had to sit out of a fun competition just because she doesn't have a sister. She was playing it cool, acting like it's a favor to Scoot, but I bet she was just as excited about it!

I loved this episode! This was actually one episode that kept me grinning from ear to ear throughout the entire episode and nearly bawling by the end because of all of the feels.

Big Mac was hilarious and thought it was adorkable how he dressed up just to help Applebloom get that ribbon. And the ending was a great wrap up job in my opinion with having both Big Mac and Applebloom actually discuss their feels instead of holding it in. Also hearing Big Mac say something else other than just "Yup" was great too. I almost died from the feels!

Plus nothing was better than seeing Scoot and Dash finally get to do something as a "sister" team which I thought was cute in itself. Just imagine how excited Scootaloo must have been!

    I give this episode a definite 9 out of 10 hooves :)

Yet another gem for S5. Had me cracking up until the end, which admittedly had me a bit misty-eyed. Nice to see ol' big red in a proper speaking role again, even if 95% of it was in falsetto.

Oh, and to acknowledge the elephant in the room, Tumblr's already taken to making a big ado about how this episode was supposedly transphobic. Of course, I stopped trying to decipher their warped brand of "logic" long ago, so I just brushed it off like the patent absurdity it is.

Yeah it's all over Twitter too. Look at Peter's New's Twitter. He got into it with a trans person on there. It was all over the place on there lol.

I mean I can see why the trans community would be offended, but again I think people are taking the show too seriously in my opinion. Yes Big Mac was in a dress. But instead of looking at it as a way for Hasbro to "make fun of the trans community by putting a trans mare in uncomfortable situations where pony's would obviously know he is a dude," is ridiculous. Instead of looking at it that way, why don't you actually look at it the way it was intended to come across for the targeted audience: Big Mac dressed up in a dress so that he could help Applebloom win the ribbon for the Sisterhooves Social. It really doesn't have to be that complicated lol.

But again it is just my opinion.

I still adored the episode regardless. Oh was it just me or did Applebloom's voice during this episode seem just a little off in the beginning? lol

This is nothing new. They already banned drag queens from performing at their pride events.

I liked the episode, btw. It showed how much Big Mac cares for Applebloom, even though he didn't really go about it the right way. And kudos for the other ponies of Ponyville for accepting him coming to the social in drag. It's more than the humans in this world do.

So members of the LGBT community are offended by EACH OTHER now!? Am I the only one who finds that ironic?

Considering not one person here is actually offended, maybe we could stick to talking about the show...?

I would say that discussing how people reacted (and overreacted) to the episode is talking about the show.

The thing is, none of my trans friends (who are all friendly, level-headed people) were offended by the episode in the slightest, and in fact one of them said it had her rofling.

Something tells me that the Twits and Tumblrinas who are being most vocal in their offense aren't even trans themselves, and are simply being indignant on behalf of the trans community. Which...hey, that's always great, right? If a minority doesn't find something offensive, FIND IT OFFENSIVE FOR THEM. It's not like they can think for themselves, after all!

    smh

It's like that episode of Family Guy where Chris asked out the girl with Down's Syndrome. The internet blew up with all of the usual "that's offensive" rhetoric while the voice actress who, get this... ACTUALLY HAS DOWN'S SYNDROME, said she really enjoyed playing the part and that it was good to show that mentally challenged people aren't really that different from the rest of us.

I've not been keeping track of the season's episodes but the screenshot of Big Mac in a dress and all. All I can say is wow. He actually pulls it off well, especially for a bulky colt. I'm also already seeing art of it too. A female Big Mac isn't anything new in fan art but now there is more fuel to add to the fire. The fact a brother would sacrifice his own identity and dignity for his sister is a big hearted gesture. While it maybe funny, it's something respectable.

Though I'm also foreseeing a lot of backlash on the LGBT community due to this. There are sadly parents that'll be now shunning MLP for saying it's alright for guys to dress in drag. I'm not saying all parents will do this, but there are enough closed minded ones that will. It's not something I'm going to consurn myself with but it's sickening to think about how homophobic people will be about it.

Haven't yet heard anything from conservative whiners, but there's actually plenty of whining coming from progressives (see above posts). Never mind the fact that these people have failed to reasonably demonstrate exactly how the episode was transphobic aside from "It makes me feel insecure, therefore transphobia", but they've apparently been vocal enough about it that even Peter New mocked them (rightfully so) over Twitter.
