ace put the pack beside him not drinking it as he continued to make sure the food didnt burn jay smiled feeling the same giddyness max was
"Hey," Max said, poking Ace and sounding a bit more serious, "Drink it up Ace, doctor's orders," She took over the cooking, before he could use it as an excuse. She watched the can of beans, and floated the blanket over the three of them, resting it around their shoulders as they cuddled each other; it was quite cold this morning, proof that their mission to recover the heating talisman was an important one.
"Hey, come on now," Max insisted, frowning at him, "This is not a matter for debate; you have radiation poisoning, and you need to take it."
"jay will need it more" he said looking at max "if i take this now we have one less, and that one could have saved her life in the future"
"And if you being sick affects your aim?" Max countered, looking at him seriously, "Makes you miss a shot that would otherwise have save one or all of us?" She shook her head and pressed the radaway to his chest again. "I appreciate the sentiment, really, I do; but I've got plenty of doses for the moment, and we can restock once we get to the Stable," She paused and moment and turned his face to hers, "We need you, Ace, and we need you on top form."
"Thank you," Max said, quietly, before kissing his cheek. She turned the stove off, and produced three little bowls, holding them out for Jay to fill.
ace sat there stareing out the window as jay filled the bowls and handed two of them back to max before she began to eat and cuddle up to max
Max put a hoof around Jay, and used the other to nudge Ace. "Hey, you with us?" She asked, trying to bring his attention back to them. "Come on, eat this; it'll help with the nausea," She said, floating the bowl over to him, before eating her own.
jay smiled ace looked at max and took the bowl and began to eat "thanks max" he said to her he seamed a bit down still
Max put a hoof around Ace too, and kissed his cheek. "What's wrong?" She asked him gently, "Can't I have a smile from my lovely stallion~?" She cuddled him and Jay close, driving away the cold and enjoying the heated up beans.
"im just thinking about my sister.......i want to know if shes ok" he said givong her a small smile "im also trying to remember my parents but it isnt working"
Max smiled back sympathetically, and touched her forehead to his, crossing horns. "I'm sorry," She said, "I forgot about your memories, with everything else going on lately, but I've finished reading up on it, and when we get back, I can scan you with the deep thought machine, which should be very helpful in restoring your memory." She gave him a kiss. "But until then, I'm afraid you'll just have to make do with your new family." She said, pulling him and Jay into a group hug.
"Alright love," Max said, nodding, "When we get back, we'll get right on it; but for now, we need to find my Stable." She finished her beans, and collected up all the empty bowls. "As long as nothing goes wrong, we should get there before nightfall..."
Max put her stuff into her bags, put her coat back on, and slung her bags over her back. "Okay gang, let's go!" She said, trying to sound cheerful as she led them back out into the blasted wastes.
Max lead them back up the road, and continued on in the direction they'd been headed in before they came to the road. The journey was uneventful; several hours of trudging across a wide, lifeless expanse of broken trees and burnt grass, keeping an eye on the clouds, and occasionally squeezing off a few rounds at molerats that strayed too close. Around noon, they came across an old hunting shack, and Max suggested they stop for lunch and a rest.
