The race will decide part of your stats, and then you'll get to customize the rest of them. I haven't quite decided on the exact numbers yet, but when I do I'll add it to the Core Rules page. :3
I'll pop it here instead. Earth Ponies likely need a Racial Trait akin to a Boosted Skill Check, generally to do with some sort of feat of strength or handiwork. Perhaps, they can take a 'Profession' like Woodwork, Farmwork or something similar and be able to claim a bonus on their rolls when they attempt something relating to that skill set. Possibly the same for Zebras. Other ideas for stuff? - Race: Diamond Dogs - Not overly smart or dexterous but are very street smart and speedy. They could have many mechanics based around being able to squeeze all the loot they can out of any situation. - Race: Timberwolves - Perhaps an avenue for an innately vicious Naturespeaker that could also be able to get into the fight themselves along with whatever they ask to join them. - Class: Mechanist - I do love a little Steampunk and I always think the ability to create and use weaponry that relies on a MLP-slanted pressure tank could be cool. In essence, you can be doing lots of interesting things per turn, but only if you have the steam pressure to pay for it. On top of that, each piece of equipment counts as a piece of armour that can be damaged and rendered useless. - Race: Crystal Pony - Ridiculous Magical Resistance along with not much power but can be charged with a magical aura from other, friendly characters for various perks, based on the used spell. Including the ability to boost the power of a spell if it's passed through their body, at a cost of their ability to do anything else. Could give bonus damage to all melee attacks if they're unarmed. Or unhoofed? - Race: Seapony - So, in order to make this workable, it's quite obvious that we'll have to magic up some reason that they suddenly have legs to walk on but can be a decent battlemage build. Their ace is water and are pretty limited to that being a basis of their attacks. However, it needs to be balanced with it being seriously able to pack a clout. Perhaps like a 'Waterbender' from Avatar only it looks a little like Vaporeon from Pokemon. Some areas are a difficult area to fight in, such as a volcano, and need a small amount of water to work with unless they attempted to use lava instead (it's a liquid, shut up!). Otherwise, down to tridents and nets like a ponified Aquaman. - Race (Possibly Boss): The Twisted - Just for fun, how about a class based on Soul Ember's OC design? These are Alicorn that drove themselves mad with darker magics and sorceries of such power that their bodies constantly crave. This grants them both magical resistance and a Magical regen whenever they are hit with magic. They are also capable of being charged with magic from other sources to replenish their magical stores, but only that. This would mean that they could not be healed by magic but could only be allowed to continue to fire off with various magical spells of pure evil. Close combat would be clutch for them as they would be able to syphon of energy for attacks but not survive a fight for very long. - Race: Kitsune - Again, just for fun. Take the basis for the Twisted and instead of being able to fire off magic more often, it's centered around the ability to respawn. These trickster characters are somewhat like the Spy in Team Fortress 2. In a firefight, they're rather pathetic so will attempt to use indirect attacks and stealth to slip around an enemy and beat them that way. Energy reserves could be restored but they'd have only fire attacks to put them into. Anything else would be used to misdirect enemies, infiltrate ranks and confuse a target long enough to slip on by because a Kitsune would be utterly pathetic in a fight if caught. They're saving grace is a respawn ability that, when dead, would allow them to enter a 'Spirit State'. This would allow them to retreat or recon ahead only as this form is incorporeal. They then can use up energy to resurrect themselves and try again from a new point. The only thing is that resurrection doesn't include all items and gear, ensuring that there's some risk to risking your neck. Plus, while in spirit form, many magical spell and effects are double their effectiveness. A Kitsune is highly vulnerable to death or exorcism in this state. Just a few ideas...
- Race: Changeling (And Host) - This requires the permission of another player as the changeling requires a host in order to perform the majority of their more powerful abilities. Once granted a host, the Changeling gains temporary boosts from their host whenever they feed from them. However, the host also has a group of beneficial boosts that the Changeling can give them an edge, at the cost of some nerfs to their character due to the Changeling feeding from them. They can be made to reroll certain actions as well as gain sudden boosts to capabilities based on the Changeling's own stats and abilities. Depending on how the Changeling is built changes how they can poke and prod a host's performance. So, a fighter Changeling can't boost magical power but they could boost a host's physical prowess. - Class: Lawpony - The desert towns of Equestria are no place to be without somepony around to dish out justice. Either a sheriff or just a vigilante, Lawponies are incredible with lassos and any other projectile they can lay their hands on. A steady aim can land you the difference between a bandit gone and a bandit caught. - Class: Bare-Hoofed Brawler - A class that gains bonuses from having no weapon at all as all they need is right in their hooves. Able to strike and move in the same action, Brawlers are a close and personal kind of fighter that could land the finishing punch. - Race: Draconequus - All bets are off! You have attacks that just throw in random elements, some not all that fantastic. While you might not deal much damage, a randomly selected effect could clinch the deal. Though, this could be anything from 'Take Poison Damage' to 'Your Character now has a Blue Mane'.
I definitely plan on adding Diamond Dogs as a playable race, and I like your idea for Crystal Ponies as well. Also, I definitely plan on implementing how changelings feed on emotion in some way, so thanks for the ideas there!
@Lioconvoy An inventor type character could be any class (for now, though maybe I'll add a specific class for it later), but would have a high intelligence. If you wanted to invent something, it would take time in-character, as well as an intelligence check that depends on what exactly you're inventing. And of course, you'd have to get the materials.
The EPRP system is ridiculously over-complicated. Always has been. Quite frankly, I think y'all should just chuck the whole thing and start fresh.
Well, that's what I'm doing EPRP 2.0 is just me redesigning the system with inspiration from the first one. And actually, it's not very complicated compared to most RPGs. If you've ever played something like ADOM or Dwarf Fortress, those are ridiculously over-complicated. D&D is less complicated than those, but still more complicated than EPRP. It's actually pretty basic. Of course, people prefer different levels of complexity in their entertainment, so if you like simpler things I don't blame you. Personally, I enjoy complexity in my games.
All right, I made a Changelog thread, so anybody who wishes to keep up-to-date on EPRP information can follow that thread. Whenever I make a change, I will make a new post in that thread, alerting everyone who is following that thread. Much more efficient than going around telling everyone, or worse, just changing it without telling anyone. Hope this helps you guys!
I don't mind complexity in entertainment (I am a Sci-Fi/Fantasy fan after all), but I've never been a fan of games that involve that much math. Math is NOT my strong suit.
If anyone ever invites you to play in an Anima game, laugh at them. I haven't seen a tabletop RPG system nearly as complicated as that one. When you need a calculator to perform fractional division just to see if you successfully perform an action, you might want to take another look at your system.
