What Berry is saying in english, Legion: Nobody can prove that Cloud Sky Man really said or did the things the Bible said he did, and therefore it cannot be proven, but it also cannot be disproved. Hence the concept/standard of falsifiability can't possibly be met in religious discussions, as religious individuals press forth unproven and untested words as fact when they themselves have not been proven. It's a doomed argument from the start. At the end of the day, it's nothing more than a silly game of he-said-He-said.
Hence, why I made that very statement at the beginning of the thread. If you guys had read any more than one sentence, you would know that this thread was originally intended to be a Q&A about Christianity for people who were curious, not people who had already made up their mind one way or the other. It was not intended to be an argument thread, and I was not interested, and still am not interested, in dealing with you guys' attacks. If you want to despise Christianity or religion in general, go ahead. Just please, stay out of my thread. I've already learned my lesson: Debates and arguments are not going to convince anyone of my opinions, because just like I used to, they've already made up their mind before they even started the debate. I didn't need Dilly to start arguing with me before, and I don't need Berry to start arguing with me now. If you are going to start arguing me, then yes, as Berry said, you are going to have to assume at some level that it's possible that God exists, heaven forbid that should ever happen. Otherwise, I am completely happy to let you believe whatever you want, and I wish you guys could be the same rather than trying to tear apart anything related to religion, such as this thread's OP. Thank you. (If this doesn't match up with everything in the posts prior, it's because those were like a year ago. So yeah.)
Also, yeah, sorry about that. I read it wrong the first time, and only took the general attitude away from it. My bad
I'm sorry if you feel like I'm attacking religion, or arguing for the sake of it, that's not my intention, and I have no interest in it either, neither have I tried to disprove anything or say any ill will towards you or Christianity, I'm honestly baffled. Yes you can take it all the way to the topic of existence, I didn't though because it was stipulated not to do so, and this thread was for learning purposes, I stopped before that question and instead claimed, are the words in the bible really YHWH's, how do we possibly falsify this when omnipotence can trump anything put forward. as you can see, my claim is presuming the existence of YHWH, so I'm not sure what you're talking about with your next statement. And I have no problem with that, I already have for the sake of discussion, I should point out that theists can still think the bible should be held to the same standard as any other claim or idea, I'm just trying to discuss Christianity, the bible and its content here. I'll put forward my claim again in the interest of getting back on topic. Straight out of the gate, no one can use anything that is written in the bible and say it's the word of YHWH, nobody can provide or even conceive of evidence to say otherwise given YHWH's supposed abilities. Omnipotence trumps anything put forward to falsify it. does anyone think I'm wrong? does anyone agree? does anyone want more information? does anyone want to give me more information? maybe someone does know how to falsify it? this is a open discussion.
Well back when i was "Christian" I believed believing in god and being the best person i can was what made me Christian. The rest of my family was pretty much the same
Oh boy, well I've got a complicated relationship with Christianity. Today I'm not very spiritual, or at all spiritual. But being raised as a Catholic, I grew to like the culture and history of Roman Catholicism. The art, the saints, the architecture, the science (yes you heard me). I mean just look at the Cathedral of Cologne, or listen to one Tomas Luis de Victoria's songs. It has a very western beauty. That being said, I feel that most branches of Protestantism are cheap imitations, and if I weren't a lapsed Catholic I'd label them heresy, especially evangelism. Evangelism feels so fake and plasticy. Sorry if I went a little overboard.
