Frowning a little more, Max put on her coat, and trotted out into the hall. Looking around, she couldn't see him, so she sat down and fiddled with her pipbuck, seeing if she could contact him, or at least locate his pipbuck tag. She wasn't too worried, but it was a little odd; usually if he wasn't there when she woke up, he was close...
After listening at Jay's door for a second, to make sure there were no more pained moans, Max headed to the elevator, and down to the basement. "Ace?" She called again, as she walked down the stairs, towards the maneframe.
Max trotted into the room, smiling curiously at Ace. "What are you doing down here Ace? I didn't oversleep that much did I?" She asked, moving over to stand next to him.
"just tweeking programs of the cleaning robots...and...i dont think you slept in" he said at the termanal he was typing at
"But you're okay?" She asked, sitting down and leaning gently against him. "You left without waking me..."
"yes...cause you looked tired....and...i couldnt bring myself to wake you, you looked too at peace" he said softly and with a smile
Max smiled and gave him a quick hug before standing up again. "Well... thank you then. But now that I know you're okay, I'm going to have a shower.." She said, giving his mane a gentle stroke.
ace looked at her and smiled "ok i should be here when your done" he said before going back to what he was doing
Max nodded. "Alright." She said, smiling faintly and looking at him for a moment, before heading back upstairs.
About half an hour later, Max returned, her mane still damp. She sat next to Ace, and kissed his cheek. "We can do another session with the deepmind machine today, try and retrieve some more memories, if you want," She said quietly, not wanting to disturb him, in case he was doing something important.
"I.....I don't want to see any more of the war......it haunted my dreams last night and I could barely sleep....." He said to her looking down
Max frowned and hugged him, gently stroking his mane. "You should have said something, Ace! I could have done something to help..." She said, quietly.
Max nuzzled back, still holding him. "Well, I should be able to direct your thoughts somewhat; choose what memory we uncover next, but it'll be tricky. I'll need your help, and there's no guarantee it'll work," She sighed. "It's up to you; I know what it's like to have memories you rather forget..."
