I can't date women...at all... When I thought about it, it made sense why I never seemed interested. Sure I was scared about it, went into a full on panic attack, and had to have a friend talk me down to a calm state. You want me to get to the point, right? Well, here it is... I'm extremely gynophobic, and tried to seek treatment, I ended up reverting back to it. I can't even look a girl in the face. I freak out any time one comes near me. I've just given up trying and went the other direction(if you know what I mean). I have to say that I've never been happier with my life choice. I've told my mother, and she supports me even though she's a devout baptist. She said to me, "You do whatever makes you happy, I won't stop you." That made me so happy that she accepted my decision, even though it was against her beliefs. I'm glad to have an understanding mother who wants me to be happy and not miserable. So what I'd want is a guy who loves and respects me, not for anything else. If I can find that, I'll be truly happy.
Im jealous of you. When i told my parents i was bi' the first thing my mom said was, "So who's dick have you been sucking?" That pretty much made me want to die, considering the fact that she is also bi'. Since then all i got from them about it were stupid ass gay jokes, and sarcasm. The only thing worse is that i cant move out, because i have nowhere to go, and i cant afford to live on my own. I dont know if this is worse or not, but they had a more positive reaction when they found out i smoked weed. Sorry to use your thread to rant about it, but it just sparked when i read your post. Your lucky to have friends and family that accept you for you. I am surrounded by family which are mostly homophobic. No one in my family is more homophobic than my grandfather on my biological mother's side. The worst part, and not in a racial way, is that he is a pure blooded Catholic Mexican. I live with insurmountable ignorance. This is why I'm happy to be on my own. My family doesn't need to know about my sexuality or that I'm trans. They can suck it, to be honest. I am pleased you did not have to deal with the typical, fatuous ramblings of a homophobe (not to mention potential repercussions) when you said that, Flying Colors. I am bisexual myself, but I haven't really bothered telling many people about it. The people I know, my family included, would be fine with it, but it doesn't seem particularly relevant to me in the first place due to my lifelong aversion to relationships (I am fiercely introverted and consequently not relationship material).
Thanks. You know, a mother who accepts you for who you are, regardless of sexuality truly loves you. A mother who can't do that should be ashamed. I held nothing against any sexuality, because I accept it, unlike other people. I know we could be good friends. Yeah, and thanks. My mother always said to me: "There will always be someone out there who will understand you and love you no matter what." I believe her, and I think you just need to find some encouragement to get yourself out there and find the one who can do that for you. I understand how you feel about these things, and you have my best wishes.
That's awesome that your mother accepts you for who you are. As for your decision, congrats for being brave enough to come out; that takes a lot of courage.
Hey, @Flying Colors, hang in there. It'll be alright. Sexuality-related stuff sucks when you're young, but -- and I hate being cliche here but it's too true to avoid it -- there's a ton of opportunity in your future, even if it's hard to see right now. You'll have to put up with some seriously bad stuff at times, but there's a lot of people like you out there; just check out this thread, or most other parts of the internet.
I do despair at the American's on the site with this stuff. In the UK, we seem to actively have to search for someone that bigoted. Anyway, you'll be surprised how many of our community are LGBT and the other letters I can't remember right now. I'm Bi, myself. Well, Pan but more people understand Bi so, whatever. I wish you luck in your search for that perfect guy!
Well, to be fair, America is a lot bigger than the UK. Bigotry is more common in certain regions down here, like the Bible Belt. In places like California and the Northeast, it's quite rare.
I'm bisexual (honestly it's more than just that) and really cannot risk coming out at all until I'm at a place of my own, and as Dilly said, there will be plenty of opportunities in store for you in the future. I am happy to hear that your mother is accepting of who you are and want to be. To be brutally honest, my parents are the exact opposite; it's rough living in a household full of homophobic tensions where one wrong move on my part will compromise me and result in my flank out the door. The friends I've met online, and some of my friends in real life, know that I'm this way and support me all the way, so that makes me happy. Unfortunately, the area I live in isn't exactly... the best. I've graduated from high school 2 years ago, a time where the students were tolerating the fact that not everyone was straight, and alright with their presence with them. Nowadays, I often hear my brother talking about how "all the homosexuals and bisexuals" get bullied, and even pummeled, relentlessly over there because they either try to come out, or someone discovers the truth about them and spreads it around like a wildfire. Going on from what Tyro said, there's a thread regarding that aspect of the community, started a good few months after the site first launched. If you haven't been through it yet, it's definitely worth peeking at, as you'll see that there's quite a lot of members on this site who fall along the lines of LGBT or support those who do.
It does vary a lot by region, but more so in its expression than its presence. I've found that people in general are equally homophobic everywhere I've been. What changes is usually whether or not they use religion to justify those beliefs, which as you've stated, happens a lot in the Bible Belt.
