From the 1st episode on season 6 we know there has never before been a natural born alicorn which makes me wonder, what race were Luna and Celestia before they became alicorns and who made them alicorns in the first place? Discuss
All they said was that no Alicorn had ever been born in Equestria. Luna and Celestia are likely older than Equestria.
I will continue to think that Celestia and Luna are still trolling everyone in Equestria. They let all this stuff happen because after living so long, only this crazy, weird stuff is interesting anymore. They've probably seen everything countless times. So when something new happens, they are not going to stop it. They're just hoping for something to relieve their monotony. Like this episode, uh yeah, there's no way even Luna and I could stop this... >_> We will go out and try though... <_<
They also said that it's even beyond their knowledge. So either they don't know about their own origin (surely at least Celestia would know about how Luna came to be, unless they are much closer age-wise than expected), or they too used to be something else in their youth.
Well you don't actually remember being a baby, so if celestia and luna were born alicorns they would have no knownledge of how it is like / which challanges there are
Hence why I said at least Celestia should know about Luna. And they don't necessarily have to remember how they were born. Do they not remember a time when they were not alicorns? That could have been a hint. And chances are their parents, caretakers or someone else would have known about it and passed this information on. Wouldn't Celestia and Luna have said something more like "Well, I can't say it never happened, obviously, even if we don't know why and how" instead of "Nope, never happened"?
Well i just got an interesting idea: What if Flurey Heart wasn't born an alicorn either, but was made one right after her birth due to her extraordanary magic abilities?
But didn't they say she was a born alicorn? Also, extraordinary magical abilities weren't supposed to be the only reason someone gets to become an alicorn, even though that's obviously changed now.
This is assuming that Celestia and Luna had come into being like other ponies. The same question of origin can be assigned to the likes of Discord, too. They may not have necessarily come about through sex, or even have parents in another sense. Heck, they may not have ever been babies for all that we know. As far as I know, Twilight Sparkle and Cadance have been the only alicorns, other than Celestia and Luna. If that's true, and Cadance happened to be the first alicorn to bear a child, then there would be little wonder for why an alicorn being born would be unprecedented, considering how earth, unicorn and pegasus ponies have been mixing it up for who knows how long without ever producing a combination between the parents and their overall ancestry.
