I thought it was alright. The episode, as a lone episode removed from the context of the season, was pretty average over all, and nothing really to right home about. But I felt, that as a season opener, it kinda fell flat on its face. If you look at the season 4 and 5 openers, they set out the theme of the season, either gave us some insight into a conflict talked about since season 1, or gave us one of the best villains the show has seen. The s5 premier didn't feel like a premier, it felt like an average 7/10 episode that someone just kinda threw into the premier slot. Most likely just more corporate meddling.
Hello everypony It is my first discussion on an episode so please bare with me if I'm talking nonsense I have an issue with Sunburst and Starlights Glimer in this episode. First of all, Sunburst, when he sees Starlight he seems as if he didn't recognize her and straight after that he starts lying about his achievements. It feels like his lying too any strangers about this type of stuff. Another thing, His house looks like he lived there for many, many years and when did the Crystal Empire reappeared? And Starlight Glimmer, she seems a bit insecure for her standards (compering to season 5). She is too easily accepting Twilight as her mentor in my opinion. I think it would look better if she would show some sort off resistance, ad least a bit like Discord did
Hi. Well, here's how I see it: Obviously, Starlight is not just some random stranger he lies to. She is this old friend he hasn't seen (and maybe hasn't even thought about) since childhood, so it's not that big of a surprise that he didn't immediately recognize her. And yet, there she is, as a personal student of one of the princesses no less, and she thinks that he is this great wizard. Is it so difficult to believe that he didn't want to admit to her that he thought he was a failure at the very thing he loves so much? Reunions can be awkward like that. And it also makes sense that Starlight feels insecure. We have seen it before with Sunset Shimmer in Rainbow Rocks. Everything they thought they knew turned out to be wrong, forcing them to reevaluate everything and learning many things from scratch. The fear of repeating mistakes seems quite natural here, at least to me. Also, Starlight and Discord are very different, personality-wise. In spite of her morally questionable actions, it seems that Starlight's intentions were genuinely good at some point and she's really interested in wanting to improve and learn from her mistakes, so why would she not be accepting of her new mentor? Discord on the other hand... well, he's a trickster who, for most of his life, only cared about his own amusement and never about the consequences his antics could have. Sure, now he cares about the others' (mostly Fluttershy's) opinion of him, but he's still basically the resident god of chaos and naturally will act just like that every once in a while.
Season six is off to a decent start. It doesn't make much sense to me how Starlight is suddenly friends with the mane six. There wasn't really any specific detail or anything. It just happened out of nowhere. At least there was an explanation why the name Flurry was chosen for her. I'm glad Starlight is now reunited with Sunburst. The episode overall, was alright. I'd give it a 6.5/10.
I know that she isn't, but for me there was no indication in that scene that he has reminded him self who she is it was just "ohh, ok. How can I help?". There should be "OMG, Starlight how are you long time no see!!!", or something like that. At least if he really cared as they tried to show later in episode
I'm Glad that Starlight became twilight's student and she got to see sunburst again. However I do not like the fact that Shinning and Cadences baby was a Alicorn and the fact the Celestia and luna were not born alicorns.
It wasn't mentioned that tia+luna weren't born alicorns, they just said that it wasn't something that equestria has seen yet, which might imply that tia+luna were around longer than equestria
oh possibly. i interpreted it as they were not born alicorns. I didn't think of that. Celestia better be born an alicorn. i don't care if luna isn't XD sorry Solar empire follow XD
Just wanted to post something in here again real quick. My thoughts on this one haven't changed much despite my changed perspective honestly. Spoiler About the only thing that's changed is that it being the WORST PREMIER EVER was clearly an overreaction. However it wasn't exactly strong either. Mostly mediocre. Flurry Heart is still cute and that was basically the only reason I looked past it being an alicorn. The rekindled friendship of Sunburst and Starlight was okay and they were able to overcome their uncertainty of being honest with each other about what happened to them and being worried what the other would think of their current status and/or pasts. Either way the resolution was still somewhat predictable with Sunburst coming to the rescue and all. Clearly it wasn't the worst premiere ever but I'd still say it was weaker than other premiers. So my thoughts on this have only changed from 'WORST PREMIER EVER' to being 'Mediocre'
