happens twice a year in my work, inflation and alcohol tax which affects us and our suppliers, separate to those our pay raises with inflation as well.
Hey, wait... you're in Australia. I've been arguing American economics with somebody who was talking about Australian economics. Not sure it works the same.
Eh, I know more than most about retail, but probably less than someone whose forte it is. Still, you're never gonna convince me that doubling the minimum wage will lead to anything but economic disaster.
That's okay, we already get that 20 cents off everyone and more, the up sell. Need any soft drink or ice? do you have your rewards card? Docket deals, two for deals, delivery, extended warranty, bundle buys, upgrading to a meal, is that a large meal?
I love how stupid people are when it comes to "deals." Put an item on sale for 25% off, and you'll maybe sell a dozen over the usual. The next week, put it on sale for "Buy one, get one half off," and people will go nuts. They'll be buying it six or eight at a time. I think my favorite was when a store ran a "10 for $10" sale on an item that normally cost $0.99, and sold out on the first day.
Yup, it's all about that customer experience, it feeling like a good deal is more important than it actually being a good deal.
That's what you call it? The way I learned it was "Never underestimate the stupidity of your customers."
A cursory glance through a respected business newspaper or magazine can easily substantiate that what we have in the United States (which I describe) is capitalism. In all honesty, I feel that billionaires and their politicians are more afraid of the electrifying effect a federal $15.00/hr. minimum wage would have on workers than certain businesses dealing with what you have described above. If fast food and retail workers got bumped up to $15.00 per hour, everyone else with a more specialized skillset and/or college degrees will demand more as well (especially those in the skilled trades not starting out at much more than $15.00 per hour). Those kind of wages for all workers cannot be realistically granted on a capitalist basis, and workers striving for such a thing has the potential to threaten capitalism's existence.
You can accept this or not. It's entirely up to you. However... I'd like to sincerely apologize to anyone I've ever offended or made angry. I've now found myself in a situation that I've pretty much never found myself in. Ever. Again, you can believe me or not but it's true. I literally have no idea what to do right now. Which is why I'll be contemplating things for awhile. God... I have no idea what I've been doing... really. I don't.
