So basically, I made myself watch the original movie of our beloved franchise, My Little Pony: Escape from Midnight Castle. Said I'd never do it but I guess I lied! Found it pretty cringe-worthy and there were SO many plot holes and unanswered questions!! On a positive note, the art style and animation was pretty good and screamed 1980s. Anygoo, has anyone else ever just bit the bullet and gave old gens a try? BTW, I watched an episode of G3.5 and it STILL turns my stomach!
Goddamn, I really didn't like the G3/.5 series (yep, I actually watched most of them.). The only thing that I somewhat liked about it was the character Minty, who I thought stood out amongst the others.
Compared to the rest of the pre-FiM franchise (hell, even compared to FiM at times), Midnight Castle was some hardcore sh*yay*. Wanna know why? This is where Tirek came from. THIS IS WHERE TIREK CAME FROM. Not only that, but Rainbow Dash is pretty much an updated version of Firefly. Wanna know how they beat Tirek in this special? Well, the ponies don't send him to pony hell. No, they KILL THE BASTARD. That's right, the first villain in My Little Pony's history is dead. He has passed on. This centaur is no more. He has ceased to be. He's expired and gone to meet his maker. He's a stiff. Bereft of life, he rests in peace! If he didn't taste the rainbow, he'd be pushing up daisies! His metabolic processes are now history! He's off the twig! He's kicked the bucket! He's shuffled off the mortal coil! Run down the curtain and joined the friggin' choir invisible! THIS... IS AN EX-CENTAUR!!! That's how hardcore G1 was. Granted, this was the decade when Optimus Prime kicked it for the first time, but still... HOLY SH*yay*! Too bad the series became a girlier G1 Transformers after the Smooze hit the big screen.
