Gentleponies, start your engines. So... A derby in Ponyville is underway, and the schoolhouse is invited. However, the Cutie Mark Crusaders may have a few problems with taking the lead... Thoughts? Personally, I thought it was decent and satisfying with the buildup and tension. 6.5/10
This episode was okay. I liked that the conflict the CMC had with their older sisters was realistic and relatable, but that aside, there's not much about it I find noteworthy.
I enjoyed it. Anyone who's played sports when they were kids know that parents (or older siblings) can get WAY more enthusiastic than the kids sometimes! I like how they really made the audience share the CMC's frustrations. I know I was getting antsy. I actually had a project in college (the first time I went) where we split into pairs to make cardboard boats. The guy I worked with had worked for a company that made kayaks so I pretty much let him call the shots. I resigned my suggestions and lo and behold, ours was the only one that sank. Needless to say, this episode hits VERY close to home for me. Loved the reference to Speed Racer too!! Overall: OMG PONIES DRIVING RACE CARS MY LIFE FINALLY HAS MEANING AGAIN/10!!!
This episode was okay. RD, AJ, and Rairty were being really obnoxious to their sisters. The song was alright, the Scootachicken joke was pretty funny, and Rarity losing to Derpy was hilarious. (That made my day.) Also, who won what? We'll never know...... Overall, I give it a 5/10. Spoiler: Oh, and more thing.....
My thoughts on the episode are below as normal. Spoiler There's not really much I can say about this one. First off, Physics lesson? Seriously? They're in Elementary School. Not College. After that there's really not much else I can say. The cart concept is somewhat interesting and makes me think they got the idea from that fan-game that never saw fruition. But maybe not? Still, it's good to see other types of racing. The problem was... somewhat predictable if you ask me. It wasn't really surprising that Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash took over when their 'sisters' Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo asked for help with their cart. They wanted to do something different but their Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash wouldn't have it and they became understandably frustrated. Still though, it was quite funny that Derpy won most creative when Rarity was a filly. They acted as if they were the ones participating in the race when it was supposed to be for the kids, which Cheerilee tried to tell them but again they weren't listening. As expected, they ruined it for all ponies involved. I will say though I kind of liked the moral/lesson/whatever you want to call it. It really is hard to stand up to/confront those that are older than you because it seems like they are supposed to be more knowledgeable and wiser. I have problems with that myself with my mother but I don't say anything because I'm fairly sure it would always lead to an argument. No one wins in an argument. I can't say much else. I enjoyed seeing Derpy in this episode though and even being a part of the race as well and I did like the racing cart concept. The song was pretty okay too. Overall I'd say this one was a mediocre episode. But it's not like I hated it. Just me I suppose.
I hope you're ready for my thoughts on this... Spoiler: Welcome to Mario Kart Well, it's happened. I've found a Season 6 episode that I can truly call "bad." It has done something that no episode I've seen this season managed to do... It managed to make me peeved. This felt less like a My Little Pony episode and more like a bad episode of King of the Hill. The plot was uninspired and cliche, and for the first half, the episode is boring. But towards the end, it gets frustrating, as the CMC become butt monkeys. Oh, it gets worse. Remember the Rainbow Dash who would do anything to play with her pet tortoise? Remember the Applejack who inspired Twilight to take a leap of faith? Remember the Rarity who disguised herself as Applejack in the Sisterhooves Social to win back Sweetie Belle's respect? Yeah, you won't find them here. Instead, we get selfish, exaggerated versions of themselves with all the flexibility of concrete. Protip: If you have to flanderize your characters to make your plot work, GO WITH A DIFFERENT ONE!!! There is nothing entertaining about this episode. There is nothing about it that is worth anything at all. Everything about this episode is either cliche or aggravating, and characters are written to fit the plot, which is not a good sign. I was promised racing, but I get this crap instead. If you'll excuse me, I have to take out my anger on some local trees.
Uniqua shudders under his cloak. The chants sounded all to familiar. She watches as the Reapers are killed, and she sees Rashall collapse. She runs forward before she can think. She almost calls out his name, but sees that he is breathing. Sitting down near him, she collapses herself and cries for who knows how long. She wonders why the room is doing this to her, why she's doing this to herself.
For me, the episode was in two parts, the first half I found genuinely entertaining - I liked the Scootaloo-chicken reference especially, it was looking very promising, but the part with the race was a little dull. I wasn't a fan of the song, which is rare for me. It could have benefited from being less black-and-white, i.e., not made the CMC completely the innocent party, and not made the 'Mane 3' completely the antagonists. Just mostly. But again that only really affected enjoyment of the last part of the episode. It would have been way too cheesy for the CMC to have won their prizes, and too complicated to explain in the remaining time if they hadn't, so I'm kind of glad they kept that ambiguous, and I'm sure that's why they did it. If you ask me they shouldn't have re-run the race, the last part of the episode could have focused on the lesson and maybe they could have promised that things would be different next year.
