Game on! Wait, you've never heard of this sport? Ah... Applejack is challenged to a game of buckball by her cousins in Appleoosa, and wants to find the best ponies to compete with her. As usual, thoughts? This episode was full of faic and pretty entertaining moments. Who knew Snails would be so skilled at the sport? 7/10
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! FIRST SPIKE BECOMES A DECENT CHARACTER, AND NOW SNAILS?! WHAT'S HAPPENING?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
(whistle blows) Let's get it on!!! I got a real... KICK... out of this episode!! (crickets) Ahem, anygoo... yeah, another solid episode!! Games are supposed to be fun. HAVE FUN DAMN IT!!!! Reminded me a lot of Mighty Ducks 2 crossed with the quidditch scenes from Harry Potter!! Overall: 7/10
I was pretty sure that this episode was just going to be okay. Surprised and happy I am, however, to be wrong. Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy being awesome at sports held my attention pretty well. I guess you can say it's uncredible to me that this episode turned out to be good.
This was a good episode. Really liked Pinkie and Fluttershy in this one. A lot of interesting facial expressions. Great to see more side characters get recognition. Overall, I give it a 7/10.
Thoughts below in spoilers as always. Spoiler I actually really liked this one. I can definitely see the Harry Potter Quidditch influences that I read about on Equestria Daily. It seems like quite the interesting game. I also like that they have sports in Equestria. When Pinkie and Fluttershy ended up really good at the game and it shocked Applejack and Rainbow Dash that was actually pretty funny. It somewhat shocked me as well. All those failing unicorns... but Snips wasn't and was really good at it?! Okay... Not surprisingly Dash and Applejack pushed Pinkie and Fluttershy too much during their training and they couldn't take the pressure that they were putting on them as well as the pressure from the town as Dash and Applejack hyped up the game. Stressed Pinkie and Fluttershy was actually somewhat disheartening. ANGRY FLUTTERSHY IS BACK. OH GOD. I actually liked the moral in this one too. Some do well under pressure others don't. Plus... from the way I see it... games are supposed to be fun. As long as you have fun playing them, that's really all that should matter if you ask me. That could just be me though. Luckily Pinkie and Fluttershy have fun again, and Snails too I guess? This of course leads to Ponyville actually winning. Yay. That Appleoosa pegasus in the game is related to Buck Biceps guaranteed. This was just a really good episode with a good moral. Really liked this one. I'm liking this trend of good episodes.
Well, I missed last week's episode (and the one before that), so... Spoiler: ARE YOU READY FOR SOME BUCKBALL?! Thank you, writers. You've restored my faith in this season after the utter disgrace that was... ugh... the episode before the episode before last week THAT I SHALL NEVER NAME AGAIN UNLESS I HAVE TO. Honestly, this was a fun one. I am seeing the Quidditch parallels all over the place, though I do think it's a bit odd that you have to be a specific race to play a specific position. And what's this? Snails actually being AMUSING for once?! I smell good writing! I love how much the animators went with the facial expressions in this one. And the moral was just perfect; it worked with the tone of the episode completely. Also, I haven't seen so much innuendo since He-Man. Seriously, "buckball?" That's one letter away from something else.
Quidditch pony edition ^.^ At least there was no snitch-equivalent. Anyhow, fun episode, pinkie and flutts were awesome!
Really enjoyed this, it reminded me of what I love about the show. Gentle, fun, and heartwarming without being overly saccrine. The character writing was pretty much spot on. Dash and AJ's double-headers usually descend into rivalry, so it was nice to see them both channelling that aspect of their personality to work together. They have a good dynamic together, so it's always fun to see them play off of one another. Adding Pinkie and Fluttershy to that mix could have led to falling back on broad writing (over the top for Pinkie/ overly timid for FS) but their was actually some subtlety to their portrayal - the writer seemed to get the characters.
