You read that right. This is something that actually happened. I don't know how many of you heard about this already, but I wanted to share it since today we mexicans celebrate our independence day. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...residents-proposal-to-allow-same-sex-marriage Just when the president was moving the country in a more progressive way, a really high number of mexicans went out to protest against it (even though it has already been accepted), as well as same-sex-couples adopt orphan children. At times like this I am really ashamed to be a mexican... No. Ashamed that those people call themselves mexicans and want 'the best for the family' do this. They want to take mexico back to the time where women didn't even had the right to be listened. The6 are in their right to do it, I will give them that, but this is a really, really stupid idea.
Okay, this is crazy. I know people in Texas are socially backwards, but I never thought Mexicans would actively start to chastise people in a same sex-marriage, for adopting children no less.
Even though religion shouldn't be an excuse to be a homophobic *squee!*. Eh. But what do I know, right?
Isn't it a lot more taboo down there? Between the massive Catholic population, and the whole concept of machismo being so heavily ingrained into Latino culture, I can see how so large a protest could take place.
I don't really see how this is surprising. The US has a lot of problems with LGBT rights, but it's sure as hell a lot better than other countries out there. Somewhat related, has anyone seen the kid who stood in front of the protest's route?
I have to agree with Proxy. I mean, the main religion in South America is Catholicism, and most Catholics are under the pretense that same-sex marriage is not to be encouraged.
