(This refers to content from episode 24, so minor spoilers ahead.)

I know that some characters refer to actual people, including Make-A-Wish requests, so I was wondering if Angel Wing was one such case. She gets an odd amount of speaking opportunities for a background character (where I don't recall any others speaking), and telling Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash that they were her favorite ponies in all of Equestria seems out of place, like it was from beyond the veil.

I think it compromised the integrity of the universe a bit, but I guess that's cute in its own way. I figure the many-time-saviors-of-Equestria would get a lot more of that kind of attention by now anyway, if not for the big obstacle that the writers would have to tackle because of it.

Compromised the integrity of the universe?

Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but do you not realize that the ONLY reason the FiM universe was created was to sell toys and advertising slots?

What does that have to do with anything? It's one thing for something's very existence to be dependent on something else, and another thing when something within the context of a universe pulls a non sequitur. It's something that could have been avoided.

Now you're abandoning your original point (or making nonsensical excuses to rationalize that things can be done shoddily due to said nonsensical excuses) and saying something like that to make me capitulate? Not buying it.

My point stands, which -- if I were to give you the benefit of the doubt over your actions -- you may have simply had trouble following. While doing something nice for a terminally-ill child is all well and good, the writers would have served that child better had they delivered their deed in a manner expected of paid professionals, rather than the cheap and dirty method they chose. You know, to actually put some effort into it. I'm going to guess that it was out of the writer's hands on whether they would do this for someone, so at the very least the writers had control over when, where and how the good deed would be presented, and their performance was akin to spitting on the good intentions of those that made this possible to begin with.

Man, it's as if the writers of the show want me to dislike them beyond the limits of their job.

I don't recall abandoning anything. I'm just saying that that was likely the thought process that went into deciding to add the Angel Wings character to the episode.

I seriously doubt that the writers put a lot of thought into the decision, because it's not a hard decision to make.
Was it done perfectly? Of course not.

I think that you're expecting way too much from a show about magical talking horses.
The show's supposed to be cute and fun and make people happy. If you want something deep and meaningful, watch a different show.

This is not an excuse, and arguing on this point is nonsensical. It's a show that's made for exactly the same reasons as many others before it, and for many shows that will follow: money, and getting it from a certain demographic. And neither of those are an excuse for bad writing. If anything, doing something for a terminally-ill child should be even more reason for a writer to give a better performance.

It's not about a straw man called "deep and meaningful," and thus not the ad hominem that you're making this out to be. Not that you're right about your premise, since I'm pretty sure that the show focuses on delivering meaningful lessons and ideas to its audience. In the end, Angel Wings was something deep and meaningful, and it's my opinion that it should have been treated as such. If you're going to do something nice for someone, do more than show it: mean it.
