Midnight believing offence was the best defense didn't have any shields defending herself when the fireballs hit her cloak setting it alight. She snorted ignoring the burning sensation, and tossed her cloak to the floor. She decided to do another method of attack. She turned into her shadow form, causing the room to darkened almost getting pitch black. If the room fully darkened, then it would be very bad news indeed, she moved her smokescreen towards Dionaea, the edge of it burning anything it touched. Midnight then teleported behind Dionaea. She glanced at the mare and her light shield "that pesky Shield, here let me help you with that" she growled. She sent her own shadow magic at the shield attempting to drain it of its power and cause Dionaea to get burned by the approaching smokescreen.
"Reasonable enough. Hopefully the ship doesn't crash, extending our stay. I hear smoking on these is quite dangerous."
The edges of the ring had high-level shielding to protect the rest of the room from errant offensive magic, so Silver and the other observers were perfectly safe. Dionaea, however, was not. She had realized almost immediately that the filly was using shadow magic. She had learned at the Academy that shadow magic users often had a weakness to light. The filly's cloak, which was was protecting her from the light, seemed to confirm this theory, and she knew that if she burned the cloak, it would leave Midnight vulnerable to light-based attacks. Her strategy was good, but she hadn't expected Midnight to be so powerful. Having spent so much energy on defense, she was having trouble gathering the energy to attack. Finally, in desperation, she dropped the shield and sprinted to the far edge of the ring, as far from the cloud as she could get. She then cast a simple lightning bolt spell, and telekinetically coalesced the electricity into a small ball of ultra-bright plasma, which she floated just above herself. The blinding white light burned away a portion of the cloud, leaving Dionaea with a relatively safe spot to stand and prepare a counterattack. ************************************************************************************************************* "The ship is wood," Quick confirmed. Midnight glanced at Dionaea as she used the light based attack. She trotted forward and snorted "Clever, you get a point for trying, if i was any old shadow pony then I would indeed be quite screwed at this point. However" she remarked as her form lost its shadows and instead took a glowing aurora. "I'm not just a shadow pony, I'm also a Light pony every since i got defeated trying to rule the world sort of thing" she giggled. She cleared the smokescreen and teleported herself to the side of the ring, "Silver this contest is fixed. She can't harm me with light, she can't harm me with shadows, her best best is to stab me with a bread knife, but then. Seriously?" she berated the stallion, she glanced at Dionaea "You want to like, withdraw? Or do i have to do something drastic?" Several knifes, axes and bows made up from shadow matter, dark matter, light matter and em spectrum were created, along with ponies that wielded it. They began marching towards Dionaea. "Lets test your swordsmanship" she remarked. One of the shadow matter ponies took a swing at Dionaea. Midnight began eating popcorn.
Silver shook his head sadly. Midnight had been the clear winner... but she had left the ring, and thus forfeited. "Match over. Dionaea wins." Dionaea dodged the blow and stepped out of the ring to pick up her armor. "What the heck was that, Commander? I thought she was going to kill me for a second there." (Dionaea was overmatched when Midnight went berserk, but since Midnight left the ring, Dionaea won on a technicality.)
Midnight didn't really care about winning, she had popcorn. She let out a yawn, she could have easily killed the mare, and be the 'winner' though it wouldn't have been much of a victory after all, she was clearly the most powerful of the two. Midnight let out a snort "we done here? we going to go stop a drug cartel or what?" she grumbled, this was a pointless waste of time. "This exercise is pointless and just causes more ponies to be affected by this cartels operation, you fixed my pendent yet silver?" she asked him with a frown. She had seen him pick it up during the fighting. She then cast another spell and she was wearing her full combat Armour. Which was immune to both shadow and light based attacks, not that they did anything to her mind you. Midnight then summoned her shadow morning star and hung it on her belt, the best type of melee weapon. She then holstered her two different pistols one that used plasma and the other that used shadow beams. used together caused portals to appear which basically destroyed everything. (Only way out of that was her leave the ring or Dionaea leaves in a match box)
Asmo shrugged. "I could be wrong anyway. Welcome to the local watering hole!" ~~~~~ "Fair point," Azrael agreed. "Have we an Ash tray?" Navaja cringed. "I'd say that's bad for you, but you're already dead. Now, it is just... gross."
(Dionaea was created specifically for this fight, and her power level was set to match Midnight's exactly. When Midnight went berserk and her power increased, Dionaea became hopelessly outmatched. I had planned on her trying a couple more things, then yielding the match.) "This was not pointless, Midnight," Silver said. "I needed to make sure you are as good as you claim to be." He sighed. "You were sloppy. But, in this case, raw power is enough to make up for lack of skill. You will need more training eventually, though." He gave her the box with the shards of her pendant. "We will stop at Moonshine's forge on the way to the warehouse. She will be able to repair this by the end of the day." Dionaea walked up and patted the filly on the back. "Good match, filly. Sorry I broke your necklace. I'll pay for the repair." ********************************************************************************************** Nightshade shrugged and created an ashtray with her chaos magic. It was easier than looking for one.
"That works." Azrael knocked his ash into the new tray. "Any hope for a sparring partner aboard this ship?"
"A second funeral? Who could pass that up?" Navaja gave Shady a small bow. "You can try me on for size. If you so choose."
Midnight frowned at Dionaea "And the rest, you can buy me a drink as well" she remarked. Midnight let out a yawn at Silvers comment, "was pointless, I'm better than that, I could have erased you from time itself. Though Architect would not have been happy with me messing with time again" she added. "How about i set a mission?" she added with a smile, she had a really good mission for Silver. "Silver, Fix my pendent. T= 7200 Failure equals erasure" she remarked. She then put a helpful timer on his flank which began to count down from the 7200 seconds he had to do the mission within.
Silver sighed. The filly had learned nothing. Perhaps he made a mistake in choosing her sparring partner. A veteran Night Guard would have beaten her with little trouble. "Child, you bested a trainee in a controlled setting. Do not be so foolish as to think yourself MY equal." He tore off the timer and crushed it under his hoof. "I expect you to treat your comrades with respect-- and for this mission, these ponies are your comrades. Despite your appearance, we you and I both know that you are not a filly, so I expect you to stop acting like one. Now, let us go. As I said before, we will drop your necklace off on the way, and you will have it back tonight." **************************************************************************************** Nightshade shrugged. "I'm game." Cannonball came below, chuckling. "Flair says the dead horse wants to spar."
"You are quite right sir, i am not your equal. I am simply better then you" she remarked giving him a smirk. "If i was in my taboo form then i would simply wipe you out. Lucky for you i'm not. I'm at the lowest plane level, though that is still strong itself. you do not want to mess with me when i reach the higher plane" she remarked. "You only get respect when you've earned it, quite simply you've not satisfied that requirement" she giggled. She nodded "Good i want that necklace back as soon as possible. It restricts my power and limits my variance, so i'm not tracked" she added seriously.
Silver shrugged. He'd met many boastful ponies in his life. "You will get it back tonight, as I said." He looked at her sternly. "I will give you the opportunity to back up your claims soon. But for now, I expect you to follow orders. Is that clear?" ************************************************************************************ Nightshade looked at Cannonball thoughtfully, an idea forming. "We're almost to the pole, right?" Cannonball nodded. "Yeah. About an hour out." "Good. Since we're running ahead of schedule, and since it's summer and all, let's put down at the pole and have us a match. Me and Az against you and the assassin." Cannonball shrugged. "Azrael? Navaja? You good with that?"
(Uhh. Ridley. Bow, not bow. Like the motion.) Azrael nodded. "Indeed. My strength coupled with his agility, I believe, will compliment each other." Navaja shrugged. "Why not. Any ground rules?" ~~~~~ Raven trotted down the stairs of the bar, remarkably non-hung over. "Morning, world.~"
(You can see how I might have gotten that confused.) "Fight to knockout or submission," Nightshade suggested. "Rain can damn near raise the dead, so we don't need to hold back."
