Silver grabbed the filly roughly by the throat and lifted her to his eye level. "Let me make something clear. You are alive by the grace of the princesses. You were given a second chance to do something good with your life. If you betray my princesses, I will kill you. That is a promise." He set Midnight back down. "This discussion is over. You will agree to follow orders, or you will be taken into Guard custody and locked up until the mission is completed. Now gather your gear and grab a new cloak from the armory. We leave in five minutes." He sighed. He had tried to do something nice. He had hoped that by taking her along, he could perhaps earn her trust and at the same time help her earn a few bits. After all, mercenary pay for a Night Guard mission was nothing to sneeze at. Instead, she was openly mocking him in front of his soldiers and questioning his judgement. He reminded himself that her mind was, at least partially, that of a filly. He reminded himself that, in the world she had come from, she had been royalty and was used to getting her way. He was, when he needed to be, a patient old horse, but that patience was wearing thin. *************************************************************************************** "You forget I was a Guard," Nightshade chuckled. "I've fought dozens of necromancers. But I've never heard of a school of necromancy that can summon the dead from nothingness. I can't wait to see it!" **************************************************************************************** Windsor stamped his foot in frustration. These drink orders were getting crazier every day. Fortunately, the drink was within his ability to make, and he quickly did so.
"All I need is a lost soul and remains," Azrael said. "And all the creation needs is a master. They won't come back the same, however. Shall we do this outside, in essentially a ghost town?"
"We're gonna be at the pole," Nightshade said. "I don't think there'll be any remains around." What she didn't realize was that many years earlier, a Pegasi explorer had led a large expedition to the north pole. While they had reached the pole, a massive weeklong blizzard had buried their tents under thirty foot snowdrifts, and all fifty ponies in the expedition had perished, trapped under the snow. The camp was long since buried under the snow and ice, but the bodies remained.
Azrael gave a chuckle. "We shall see." Navaja smirked. "Dead Horse, might you know something we don't?" Azrael shrugged. "I may or may not. By the way." He held out his foreleg for a turkey vulture who flew out of a separate room, landing perfectly upon his hoof. "Meet Cain." Bird was probably there to serve some purpose. How did it get on the ship?
"GET OFF ME NOW" she choked as he grabbed her roughly, she was royalty after all. Her eyes flashed red as she was assaulted, she narrowed her eyes at him as he set her back down. If the grace of the Princess allowed there subjects to be mistreated, she wasn't too fond of them all of a sudden. She had also lost all respect she had for Silver. "Fine, I will follow orders. When they backfire due to you're own pigheadedness, that's on you" she snapped back. Her eyes still narrowed, she would indeed follow this brutes orders though she wouldn't help him if he got into difficulties. She stormed off to the armory and grabbed herself another cloak, she glanced at the weapons, she swapped her own gear for a staff, she knew she had to protect herself from any other possible assaults. She didn't have her amulet after all. She levitated her staff above her head, her magic didn't seem to affect it, which was good, she glanced at the stone, it was obsidian. Interesting. Midnight made her way back to Silver, who had assembled his solders, she sat down still giving him a distasteful glare. "Are we ready to go?" she asked him. he flicked her mane, this assault would be interesting. It wasn't exactly starting off great.
"Yes. We will meet the rest of the squad at the warehouse." He could tell she was angry, but he didn't have time to deal with that now. They split off from the squad, and he led her to a small blacksmith's shop just down the road. Wading through a mountain of empty liquor bottles, the found Moonshine in the back, working at the forge. The unicorn nodded as they walked in. "Mornin', Sil. Whattya need today?" He produced the broken pendant. "Repairs. A sparring match got out of hoof." She examined the damage, then glanced at Midnight. "This is high end stuff, kid. Was there an enchantment?" ********************************************************************** Flair came down to inform them that they were over the pole. Nightshade, Cannonball, and the griffon brothers Gaston and Galahad dragged the ship down and anchored it into the ice, then dropped a rope ladder over the side for the non-flyers.
Navaja sighed and took the ladder down. "Azrael, on the way, did I ever tell you about when I was a proper pegasus?" "Twice, actually." Azrael leapt straight down to the ice, leaving the bird to hover above.
Nightshade looked around. There was nothing, save for a huge, flat plain of snow and ice stretching as far as the eye could see. A perfect place for a fight. She walked up to Az as he came down. "So you're gonna be on my team, right? You and me versus the mayor and the assassin."
Nightshade nodded. "Yeah. One page back." She glanced at Cannonball, who was approaching Navaja. "Word of advice. Cannonball isn't as quick as used to be, but he hits like a runaway train. Do NOT let him land a full force punch on you." ****************************************************** Cannonball walked up to Navaja. "You ready for this, kid? Shady's damn vicious, and she's real damn good with those wings of hers. Watch 'em, even more than you watch her hooves, and get the hell out of the way if she gets 'em glowin'.
Navaja nodded. "Sí. Now Azrael. All intel shows his strength is the stuff of legends. Combine that with his martial arts, and... Just do what you can to not let him get his hooves around you. He's huge, so consider taking out his legs. One more thing: watch the horn." ~~~~~~~~~ "Understood." Azrael motioned to Navaja. "This one. Assassin. That means extreme agility, quick reflexes, and a certain skill with his eyes that we don't possess. No idea what it does, but I'm sure he'll put it to use. And keep an eye out for any gadgets he may have in his possession. Bombs, blades, perhaps a secret gun..."
