Okay... so... I really didn't like the S6 finale. Like... AT ALL. That's obvious. If you don't believe me... Go track down my post in the episode discussion on this forum. Honestly... the group should have been the 'Slice of Life' characters. I didn't mind Thorax... but... The rest? NO. JUST NO. NONE OF THESE CHARACTERS HAVE BEEN 'REDEEMED' AT ALL AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. (I use the term 'redeemed' VERY loosely here as most of this so-called 'redemption' was absolute crap IMO) I mean... I felt like they were shoving Trixie, Discord, and Starlight in my face and expecting me to like them. This will likely NEVER happen. Due to the reasons I've already stated. But here are more reasons: Starlight: Dumbass that has absolutely no common sense whatsoever. COMMITTED A CRIME BUT NO PUNISHMENT. HORRID MOTIVATION. ATROCIOUS 'Redemption' Trixie: I'm sorry but she's a *squee!*. End of story. The fact of the matter is that she doesn't learn ANYTHING. Plus the fact that she goes out of her way to annoy Twilight IS NOT FUNNY. IT MEANS SHE'S A JERK. IT'S NOT A CHARACTER TRAIT. IT'S A CHARACTER FLAW. Discord: CLEARLY a jerk that only cares about Fluttershy and no one else. YEAH I DON'T THINK SO. JERK. NOT REDEEMED. So my question is simple... Why is this show expecting me to like these characters that I'll clearly NEVER like? Because if they keep shoving them in my face expecting me to like them... I won't be in this fandom much longer. Do your best to help me out here but don't expect much. Spoiler
Character development takes time, LS. Not everyone---or everypony, as the case may be---can be expected to change from "heartless jerk" to "paragon of good will" overnight. For that matter, most individuals have good qualities buried somewhere beneath the badness; probably not enough to fully exonerate them, but enough that it makes tolerating them a plausible concept. Hating them just because they're jerks or idiots on the surface, while completely disregarding however it is they might be feeling deep down and whatever struggles they might be going through, doesn't remotely qualify as fair; if anything, it just makes you look more like a jerk than they are. (And coming from a former jerk himself, that's saying something.) The other thing you have to keep in mind is that we don't have a definite time line as far as the length of the series is concerned (at least, not to my knowledge). Most people's guesses as to the length of time between the start of the series and the end of Season 6 are just that: guesses. How long has it been between one character's appearance and the next? Who really knows? I don't see why I even bothered typing this. From the looks of things, it seems as if your mind is already made up: you seem intent on leaving the show and fandom behind regardless of what anyone says. In addition, on those occasions when I put in an earnest effort to offer a dose of common sense to someone, they reject it while claiming to have a fear of needles. So, for the sake of my sanity and my temper, I'll just leave my two cents where they lie and skedaddle out of this topic while the skedaddling's good. Whether you accept what I say or not isn't my problem anymore.
What, exactly, do you want them to do before you consider them "redeemed?" Do they have to frickin' save all of Equestria or something? Oh wait, they did. What do you want here? You want to see them imprisoned? Beaten? Executed? Is that what you want to happen to these characters on a children's show about love and friendship? Seriously, if this is what we can expect from you every time things don't happen exactly like you want them too, then by all means, leave the damn fandom already. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
Ridey makes a point. While I've not seen much beyond a few episodes into Season 4, I do know when someone is spewing BS. First let's talk Discord. The name alone should tip you off to why he struggles to be good. He is under the normal circumstances, a god of chaos. He does as he pleases. When he decided to join the 'magic train of friendship', so to speak, he gave up his freedom to do as he wished. It's understandable that he has issues with following rules because it's outside his comfort zone and not what he use to doing. So he'll have his jerkish moments. It makes him human-like and relatable because he is struggling to not return to his unruly nature. Also, from what I have seen, he does seem to have some emotions to him to. So he is not at all a lost cause. Secondly, Trixie. I did see this redemption and at one point I would agreed with you. But truly think about it. Trixie in magic duel was consumed by the power of the Alicorn Amulet. She wasn't entirely herself. It drove out her darkest self and even her fears on a large scale. It may of been no Dark Magic like what nearly consumed Twilight, but it was a dangerous power in it's own right. Trixie obtained and used the Amulet out of pure anger and revenge. As a wiccan and spiritualist, I see the reason why she failed. She was consumed by her own emotions and ultimately consumed by the artifact that she used. But by defeating her it helped make her realize her mistakes. I may need to re-watch Magic Duel, but I know I'm right on most accounts. Also I like Trixie more than I did before Magic Duel. Starlight is another case entirely. I cannot pass judgement too hard on this due to never seeing the episode that she was a villain. Though there was a lot of fan art... and not all of it was clean. Anyway, This was more a pony out after Twilight out of jealousy I believe... I'm not sure. Either way, I know some for of mind control was used, or at least manipulation. You know... I'll let someone else speak about that one... I cannot throw an argument out over this one.
Some of what you said is true. But it's hard to tolerate characters that have serious issues that clearly haven't been resolved and seem like they will never be resolved. I can only take what I feel like is this show expecting me to like these characters that I don't think I ever will for so long. What they call 'redemption' is a complete joke for these 3. In fact... I wouldn't even call it redemption. I'd call it crap writing and story telling. Believe it or not my mind is NOT made up. I intend on watching Season 7. Because I don't want to quit. I really don't. But if they keep pulling stuff like this and expecting me to accept it... I'm going to take their bad tasting medicine and shove it down their throats and see how they like the taste of it. If they can actually show me these so-called 'struggles' that you speak of, which I've YET to see, like AT ALL as far as I'm concerned... Then I'm more than willing to be okay with it and tolerate it. But until then... I don't think so. Try harder. Git gud writers. Really? I haven't seen these so-called 'emotions' you speak of. But that could just be because I'm not a fan of him in general and don't really pay much attention to his episodes. From what I can tell, he only likes Fluttershy and would kill all the other characters if he had the chance. I've seen no proof of this so-called 'dark magic' from the Alicorn Amulet. Besides, Trixie chose to use it. Even if she didn't know of the so-called 'dark magic' (which I have a hard time believing) she still went out and obtained something to try to beat Twilight because of her ego and her high-and-mighty attitude that I absolutely can't stand. Kind of like Kevin Owens from WWE. I also can't take her constant crap with legitimately trying to annoy or anger Twilight. As I said before that's a character flaw and not funny. Not a character trait.
Nobody's demanding that you like these characters, dude. But for the love of God, QUIT B****ING ABOUT IT. You're so blinded by how much you dislike these characters that you can't see anything good about them, and quite frankly, it's getting annoying. A lot of people do like these characters, and seeing something you like being slandered and mocked is irritating. What you're doing is kinda like pissing in someone else's bowl of Cheerios because you don't like Cheerios. Stop pissing in my Cheerios, Lost.
Well, ignorance is bliss, isn't it. So you say his connection to Flutershy is not emotion based? That's pretty hypocritical in my book. And sure he could kill anyone else if he wanted, but he doesn't. Wanna know why? It's not fun for him. For him, he'd rather mess with ponies than harm this in any way that would drain life force in the intention of death. He is very much mischievous more than truly pure evil. I don't dought he would of maybe killed a pony or two if they crossed him, but he isn't one that would do it for the sake of doing it I'm sure. Your idea's of Discord and my own seem to be on two very different tangents. If you despise him for his villainous intent, so be it. You must of misread my post in your anger. I never said that the Alicorn Amulet possessed dark magic. I was firstly paying reference to the fact that Trixie's intent with the Amulet made her overtly power hungry, which made her more aggressive and vengeful then she ever could be on her own merits. Dragging out her darkness and fears with it. Twilight nearly had something similar happen though the dark magic of that trap door in the Sombra version of the Crystal Palace. If it were not for Spike, Twilight would of been taken by evil. I know it's not a exact comparison, but it fits relatively close. My point being that power can be used for good, or for evil. When a heart is filled with negativity, the power they obtained will react in accordance. In this case, the artifact known as the Alicorn Amulet. I guess I shouldn't expect you to understand the intricacies of magic and it's effect on emotions and vice versa. In Magic Duel, Trixie had a obvious grudge with Twilight because she saw what Twilight could do with her magic, making her jealous. She figured the Alicorn Amulet would help her carry out her revenge. But all she did was prove how foolish her own efforts were. Though I personally think this revenge plot was a bit out there, but it fit. Trixie also may of had the personality she did because of her up bring. Ever thought of that? It's like hating on someone just because they dislike something you like. Seeing the change in her at the end of the episode, shows she has humane side to her. She does have emotions other than through anger and pride. But if you don't see that, that's both your opinion and your problem. I could care less what you think of them. Just don't be actively pissing on everyone who does like them to try and make a point about 'how horrible' they are as characters. The only one who looks like a fool at the end of it all, is you.
Well since your choosing to bash me I'll just not respond to that post. I'm done with this thread. My opinion on this likely isn't changing and if I continue to feel like the show is expecting me to like these CLEARLY HORRID characters... I'm going to take their bad tasting medicine and shove it down their throats and see how they like the bad tasting medicine. /thread.
