Alright, so we've got an episode about a SUPER obnoxious and self-absorbed former antagonist... and Trixie!! I'm kidding. I love Starlight. ♥U♥ So, Trixie is trying to learn some real magic now!! Sweet!! Of course, she doesn't exactly listen very well and mayhem ensues. I think Starlight is starting to see why Sparky has a really hard time being nice to Trixie. Let's face it, as much as I do like her, she can be rather insufferable at times. Anyway, I like the message of this episode. It's OK to be angry as long as you are able to communicate your anger in a polite way. Especially with your best friends. Holding it in and letting it build usually leads to trouble so I like that this issue was addressed. And now, let's have a few tidbits, shall we? I can just imagine the Trixie teacup memes that are sure to follow. EqD is going to have a field day with that one!! So much meta humor... songs being addressed and Magic is now Friendship (get it right folks, Trixie has spoken)!! Seems like Starlight's mane works a little like Pinkie's. And finally, Bulk Biceps seems to be a Jack of all trades... and possibly master of none. Overall: 7/10 We're off to a pretty good start here!!
That's a message I can appreciate. Both suppressing anger and finding a way to express it without doing irreparable damage have been major issues of mine throughout the course of my life, so I can appreciate that time was taken to address that.
Same rule applies to the last one. I'm not re-typing the 'viewer discretion.' You know what it is. Spoiler WHY. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE THESE TWO. WOW. YOU KNOW WHAT THIS EPISODE PROVED? THAT NOT ONLY IS TRIXIE A MANIACAL, EGOTISTICAL, MIGHTIER-THAN-THOU *squee!* BUT NOW WE ALSO KNOW SHE'S A COMPLETE DUMBASS. So thanks for that confirmation I guess. Starlight LOST HER FREAKING COMMON SENSE AGAIN. But you know what? As much as it pains me to admit this... there's actually a least a bit of an excuse this time. IT WAS ALL DUE TO THE COMPLETE DUMASS. IF DUMBASS WASN'T SUCH A DUMBASS it's possible Glimmer wouldn't have lost her common sense for the umpteenth time. Yes, I was hoping the anger possessed ponies were going to ALL OUT ATTACK the COMPLETE DUMBASS and kill her. To bad... I have nothing else to say about this one. All it was, was pretty much Glimmer LOSING HER COMMON SENSE AGAIN and THE COMPLETE DUMBASS BEING A COMPLETE DUMBASS. About the only thing I really liked in this episode was the Mane 6 in the Puzzle Room and the Mane 6 song in this episode. Current Status: Stay: 10% Leave: 90% Reason: EVEN MORE expectation to like HORRID NOT REDEEMED characters.
"WHY. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE THESE TWO." The Corporate Overlords demand it. "Starlight LOST HER FREAKING COMMON SENSE AGAIN. But you know what? As much as it pains me to admit this... there's actually a least a bit of an excuse this time. IT WAS ALL DUE TO THE COMPLETE DUMASS. IF DUMBASS WASN'T SUCH A DUMBASS it's possible Glimmer wouldn't have lost her common sense for the umpteenth time." Starlight was being pretty rational this time around. "Yes, I was hoping the anger possessed ponies were going to ALL OUT ATTACK the COMPLETE DUMBASS and kill her. To bad..."
It's obvious at this point that all you want to do is whine and get attention. You call your opinions "controversial" but it seems more along the lines of you wanting something out of a children's show that you know is never going to happen. You've got your mind made up that you are just going to dump all over any episode about Starlight or whoever else you can't stand. It's not that we don't respect your opinion, it's the fact that you don't seem to respect yourself enough to present it like an adult instead of a kid in the toy section when he can't get what he wants. We all go off the deep end from time to time but your posts have pretty much become a BINGO card at this point. No one is forcing you to like the show. In fact, it's OK that you don't like the show or its characters. Just please stop TRYING to cause a scene and keep your RANTS to yourself.
I feel inclined to paraphrase the creator of Dilbert in this situation: "I may be dumb, but I'm not dumb enough to express my true opinion on anything important. The thing I've learned about freedom of expression is that you really ought to keep that sort of thing to yourself."
Must be an old quote, cause he's gone all sorts of crazy on his blog about expressing his true opinion on all sorts of stuff... http://blog.dilbert.com/
Indeed. The episode certainly did kill a lot of headcanons, didn't it? A lot of people assumed that Trixie actually was good at magic, but just wasn't anywhere near Twilight's level. This confirmed that she's exclusively an illusionist.
I mean illusions like what stage magicians do. Either way, the fact that she had trouble with a seemingly simple transfiguration spell indicates that she was never as skilled with real magic as she was often perceived to be.
Count me in as another one who doesn't understand his visceral reaction to these characters. What's funny is that his mean-spirited rejection of Trixie and Starlight actually mirrors Canterlot High's mean-spirited rejection of Sunset Shimmer back in "Rainbow Rocks". I don't know....I know Starlight and Trixie aren't perfect, but they have enough positive things about them that I fail to see his anger as justified.
