Avice followed close behind, her hand constantly hovering over the hilt of her sword. "Hopefully it's not dangerous."
"A bit nerve wracking, but it went out okay." Cobiah said to his partner, before walking off. "You know, we technically don't need partners anymore, but I think I'll keep you around. Nice to have someone to lighten the mood."
"Aw, come on, Avice," Jack said, nudging her. "I feel that you're secretly hoping for at least a little danger." *** "Thanks for that," Jade said, smiling cheekily. "Glad I'm worth keeping around."
Avice looked at him, her expression softening. "I'm hoping for danger, but also a little safety. I'm not exactly in the best place currently." She relaxed a bit. "No need to worry, though. We can defeat whatever comes our way."
He smiled shyly at her, although it was difficult to tell under the mask exactly what expression he was making. However, his eyes twinkled, and his nose crinkled familiarly, and so Avice was able to recognize the expression with ease. "You're right," he said. "Oh, and before I forget. I brought you some more painkillers if you need them. You don't have to take them, not if you don't want to, but they won't make you sleepy, and they're particularly good for headaches, and I also brought a flask of water so you don't have to swallow them dry.." He trailed off as he realized her was rambling and ran his fingers through his hair sheepishly.
She grinned. Her expressions always seemed clear and easy to understand under the mask, and she didn't really think twice about the fact that it would hinder her face showing. "Thank you. I'll probably need those later. I'm surprised you thought about small details like the water. It'll help lots." She watched him for a moment, silent, before continuing. "Ah.. At least now the headaches won't be in the way."
"Do you need some right now?" he asked, concerned. He stepped out into the open space out of the ship, and turned to her, waiting for her to get out.
"No. I was just distracted by something," she said smoothly, hopping through and out. "I should be okay for right now."
"Okay, well..." he said, peering around at the surroundings. "Let me know." Their eyes adjusted to the gloom, and they would be able to see that they were in some sort of vast cavern. The ground was rocky under their feet, but there were occasional bursts of plant life in the crevices. The temperature was warm, but not humid. Really, it wasn't such a terrible area when you got used to the darkness.
Avice searched the area, squinting. "It's a lot different from what's above," she commented, standing behind him. Crouching down, she inspected one of the plants. "Hmm."
Avice frowned. "Darn," she said sarcastically, "I was hoping I could make a full course meal for you. Guess you'll just have to deal with the regular." She smiled lightly.
Jared had retrieved his mask and picked one up for Ellia. As he fastened it onto his face he spoke. "So how far do you think this treasure is, hmm? I like so say that we're extremely close."
"It is a shame," he agreed. "I was really looking forward to being poisoned." *** "I'm not sure," Ellia said, also putting on her mask as they exited the ship. "Didn't the legend say that the walls turned to gold or something?"
She stood back up, smoothing out her shirt. "I bet. I was really just wondering what kind of plant it was, and if the air was toxic. Nothing important, really."
"Do you know a lot about plants?" he asked, stepping over a rock that lay patiently in his path. *** Ellia laughed. "Honestly Jared, it's like money is the only love you have in this world. You're practically glowing." She paused for a moment, considering. "Although even I will admit that having a large influx certainly would be good. I think I might go home when all this is over. I haven't been back in a long time."
"Nope! I just like how some of them look," she said, mindlessly tracing his footsteps and walking where he had.
"You should open up a flower shop when we're done with all this," he said. "Changing how certain flowers look could be a full time job."
Avice considered this, then shrugged. "Maybe. I seem to get drawn to excitement, which is how I like to live my life, despite the constant threats."
