The problem with that is that proper RPs cant be held on one night, and in my own opinion, what has killed the site RP section are short, indescript posts like, for example, a Discord or Skype would encourage, on top of a deluge of edgelord god-modders trying to make an RP about them and not the story.
The RP section needs a significant overhaul. I've seen it go from a hive of activity to a utter ghost town within the past four years. If activity was to resume there, other then interesting RP ideas, is a need for being committed and perhaps a redesign of categories. I was there at its peak, and it's death was a major reason to why I left
Perhaps bringing back some form of EPRP? NOT the original. The system was flawed, and the creator was a piece of *squee!*. I read a few months back about an official MLP tabletop game. If that's still a thing, maybe we could copy that system.
I agree with this. I think that we have a shortage of people who are willing to commit to a full-fledged RP with a dedicated plot. We have a few really good, careful RPers, but most people just lose interest really quickly.
It's less of a system upgrade and more of a people upgrade that we need. Can't exactly attract anyone if good ideas and committed people are few and far between. EPRP should never be brought back. Ever. It's the most flawed and broken system I've ever used, when people are bothered to actually use it. It won't save the site, it'd speed up the death of the RP section.
While I do appriecate a system like that would help guard against godmodding, to use D&D style stuff would only slow down the already slow pace of RPs, even when the section was at its most active. I also never saw EPRP used in the actual RP section, Ive heard it was used in the RP part of the old chat section, where stuff by nature would be faster paced Basically this. What the RP section needs more than anything is more committed creative people who will respect the rules of the RP, contribute to the section creatively with opening their own RPs, and willing to see the RPs they join through to the end.
I didn't mean we should use a tabletop system for the RP section, but for possible Discord RP sessions.
I'm willing to commit as long as the plot's consistent and I'm interested. Then again I'm not the best RPer either.
This is what I was talking about. I was in a hurry and should have been more descriptive. There are also voice channels on discord and using one of those would be feasible for a tabletop RP night.
Part of the problem there, is creativity isn't the issue. Ideas are the issue. Being able to constantly crank out new RPs with fresh ideas is a near impossible task unless you are a literal robot. And even then, there are some are some limitations. There is also the confidence factor in all this. I think people tend to not do RPs out of a lack of interest, or because they are scared to screw up. Whether it is being the creator of the story, or the player of it. Admittedly I suffer from a bit from both these things where I cannot think of ideas often enough, and I do tend to have doughts about how good my performance can be, especially when you get those 'writing experts' that post a huge wall of text with each RP post. But this is just my opinion on the issue. The other thing for me is that I feel like a curse upon any RP I participate in. I've joined some great RPs that either halt because everyone ends up busy, or they completely ignore the RP, killing it. I always feel like I'm the one killing the interest of the RP. I've seen other RPs that end up getting hugely popular that end up finishing because I never join them. Though in truth, there was one Group RP I once joined long ago that was going well and for some reason people were just merely ignoring my posts. I got so frustrated with the people posting in that RP that I just left it. It finished without me, like I was holding them back or something. Eh, it maybe my imagination but I do most of the time feel like me being in any RP is pointless and I just don't bother anymore.
I've been think about Jewel's suggestion, and while rebranding the site could be a huge risk, it does have the potential for a big payoff. However, it's a very complicated topic, so I think it deserves its own thread.
Just a minor thing, but isn't about time we got rid of the radio discussion part of the forum? And maybe add one for discussing the Discord server.
Radio has been discussed, wouldn't want to remove it right now incase we end up getting somethign up and running.
That'd be nice. I never used the radio much, but I remember some folks spent most of their time there.
Since Everypony Radio is what put EP on the map in the first place, I'm gonna say that bringing it back should be the first priority. We don't have enough members left to run it the way it used to be, but I'm sure we have a few in our ranks who could at least put together some playlists.
Have we considered the possibility that the show's demographic has changed, and as a result, a website for the actual show itself is no longer going to be as relevant for day to day activity? It's no secret that bronies are not nearly as common as they were a few years ago; perhaps this website ceasing general activity as much as it has before is a chain result of that fact. Website grow and die, that's just how it is; if this one goes away, I'm sure everyone else will find some other outlet to talk about things that they enjoy. However, I do think that if you want to continue to have the website grow, you must definitely branch out and advertise onto other like minded communities, such as but not limited to other brony forums. That much I'm not sure about since this isn't really my thing any more, but it's a start. And I'm sure that's been brought up before. But if I am to give other suggestions: 1. Bring back EPR. It was kind of this site's 'thing'. 2. Continue community outreach and continue to attempt to further streamline a user experience that is both welcoming to new users, as well as innovative for current members. 3. Streamline the RP experience, and also try to bring back EPRP in a way that isn't a direct copy of the flawed system created by The Piece of Slime. Sometimes it's inevitable to stop a venture like this from meeting an end; and that's not really a bad thing. It's just how it goes.
Maybe so, but if there's even a small chance of bringing this site back to what it used to be, then I damn sure think we need to fight for it.
