I refuse to buy the Switch because of Nintendo's terrible business practices. *cough, under-stocking consoles and C&D'ing fangames, cough cough*
Its almost like you didn't notice the fan game they C&D'd was because they were working on the exact same game. Did you not see the nintendo metroid 2 remake?
I understand what you mean about understocking consoles to create a fake shortage. It's been a marketing tactic that they been doing for a little while now. It can be rather annoying when it's something you want and it's scalped to hell and back. *cough* Amiibos and the NES classic/mini *cough* However, Jewel does have a point regarding the C&D of AM2R. It was hit because Nintendo had it in the works behind the scenes with Metroid: Samus Returns. I actually announce the recent E3 trailers for Metroid Prime 4 and Metroid: Samus Returns by Nintendo in my Metroid Series Official Thread, if you want check it out. Though, I will not deny that it was upsetting to see AM2R be C&Ded. It was horrible that it could not get past version 1.1, but it is on the internet to search for. Nintendo merely stopped production of updates for the game, the actual full game is still available for download if you Google search it.
So we're going to ignore that Pokemon Uranium happened? And that Nintendo didn't really have much of a good excuse to C&D that one? Or how they forced last year's Game Awards to remove Uranium and the aforementioned AM2R from the Best Fan Creation category because "muh copyright"? Woah! Did you read my post all the way through? I agreed that AM2R getting hit when it did sucks, but the game is still on the internet. Nintendo hit it too late. Version 1.1 is playable via download if you Google search it. However, I will agree that Pokemon Uranium being hit sounded more like a purposeful removal because it was fan game and Nintendo doesn't like your *squee!* for making fan games. As far as Sega is concerned, they are a bit more lax in who uses their property, yes. And because of that, they ended up hiring fans to make Sonic Mania. Will all game companies follow in Sega's footsteps? No. And Nintendo does have every legal right to C&D fan games. The question of if they should, is a bit more tricky to answer. This is due to legal copyright BS. It's a strange grey area. Fans like us will say they shouldn't because it's 'stifling the community' by doing so. That's a fair argument, and to some level, I do agree. Nintendo's stance on what they did to the Pokemon and Metroid fan games was more a 'concern of money' and them losing it due to fan games. This does make me question their moral integrity, if they feel threatened by non-profit fan games. Normally it can be an agreeable stance in if a company's name isn't credited for the original source material and/or if the maker of the fan game was making profit. However, it does feel Nintendo does have some bias toward fan games, in the interest of protecting their properties and income.
I understand that it doesn't despell the callous C&D done to AM2R. However, the C&D did nothing more than halt further production of the game beyond Version 1.1 of the full game. Do not let this affect your want to play Nintendo's games, or they may end up discontinuing Metroid and other series all together, perminately. Mario is the exclusion to this, as that is their cash cow. But my point is, Nintendo's actions are very questionable. But does that warrant boycotting them over a few C&Ds? Of course not. Nintendo still produces quality content, and will continue to. How they produce the info for such content is still very flimsy, but they are like any other gaming company making games at the end of the day. They are working to compete on the market and doing it quite successfully. Some of their moves will be questionable, and sometimes down right deplorable. But they do it to experiment and try new things. Like I said before, I will not deny that it was infuriating to see AM2R C&Ded, but what you need to keep in mind is that it's still claimed by Nintendo. It's nowhere near being public domain content yet. That doesn't change that we will have new fan games produced and that is the amazing thing about dedicated fans.
Konami has made some good games, so by your logic, I should continue to support their content even though they have engaged in utterly reprehensible behavior and have all but ceased to give a damn about their fanbase.
What Konami did and what Nintendo is doing, are two WAY different things. Fan hate toward Konami was due to Hideo Kojima being entirely denied his well deserved trophy for his newest game in the Metal Gear Solid series. Konami literally took all credit for the game and prevented Kojima from coming to get the award, and even threatened him over it. Nintendo isn't doing anything THAT compromising to their staff or fanbase. At this point, it seems you are on the hate train merely on the basis of agreeing with everyone else that Nintendo are 'so evil' for C&Ding AM2R and Pokemon Uranium. Which they legally are able to do, might I add. And if so, then that's your problem. If you cannot provide more insight to your view than 'what they are doing is making you hate them', then I really do not know what to tell you.
If you want to continue supporting Nintendo, I'm not going to stop you. But I myself am not planning on lifting my boycott in the near future. I think Nintendo treats their fanbase like domestic abuse victims, and like domestic abuse victims, Nintendo fans always come crawling back for more. I am well aware that Konami's behavior has been far worse than anything Nintendo's ever done, but that doesn't change the fact that what Nintendo has been doing is wrong. And I don't care whether they're legally allowed to C&D those games or not, it's still a disgusting and immature thing to do. If they're so concerned about their profits and copyrights, why aren't they going after the millions of iOS and Android knockoffs of their games, which are being mindlessly cranked out by scammers in developing nations for a quick buck, as opposed to the games made by fans as a loving tribute to their favorite games and are being distributed for free on the Internet?
Okay, fair enough. You can dislike Nintendo. I however, am personally neutral on the matter and do not see a reason to join the hate train. Also, I merely play there games, what few I do enjoy playing. I do not support them on 100% of their decisions, when it comes to their business, however. Look who is calling who immature. Blindly following a hate train just because everyone agrees that AM2R and Pokemon Uranium got C&D is wrong and stupid with out any logical reasons for the hate, is rather childish and immature if you ask me. It's hate that really shouldn't be existing for such minor issues. Besides, these C&Ds happened a bit ago back. You'd think people would calm down. I guess I have overestimated you and the general populous of the USA for being reasonable individuals, if you all are going to react like this STILL. As for the the phone games thing, ask Nintendo. I cannot provide the answers for that, as I do not work for them.
