Rainbow Dash smiled a little. She was normally not one for sappy emotions, but even she couldn't help but have her heart warmed by Orchid's reaction to her gift. Suddenly, Pinkie Pie appeared, hanging upside down from the staircase banister for no readily discernible reason. "We're almost ready to go!" she said in her usual chipper tone.
“Oh, alright!” Rainbow called out to Pinkie, noticing her seemingly defy conventional physics wherever she seemed to go. “So...what’s next?” she seemed to look at Circuit. Rugburn came around the corner with a heavy box, dropping it just nearby the door. Twilight stepped inside to get out the way, just to see what all the commotion was about. “Well...I figured that we go back to where it all began. Which means, we’re going to California” “California!? I love that place!” Pinkie Pie called out across rooms. Rugburn chuckled at the comment. “We won’t have time to sightsee, nor do we have the money. It was a nightmare just trying to convince your parents to even agree to this!”
"I can imagine," replied Rainbow Dash sarcastically. Her parents were incredibly protective of her, much to her irritation.
Twilight smiled as she began to wave. “Well, I sincerely hope for the best for your trip. Especially for a long trip like this one. I best be heading off.” Everyone nodded and waved goodbye to Twilight, with Orchid coming downstairs with a bag and her new plushie. Along with that, Pinkie was waving her arms frantically in the air. “Goodbye Twilight!” Once Twilight began to walk off, Rugburn turned to face the group of teenagers. “Alright everyone, hope you’ve packed up and went to the bathroom. We’ve got one hell of a trip ahead of us.” Circuit nodded with a determined smile. “I’m ready! Let’s do this!”
----- "More coffee, boss?" "No thanks, mate." Chief Winter Rush sat at her desk, looking over some files she had just been sent. "Bit of a slow day, eh, boss?" said Copper Top, her second-in-command, as she put away the coffee pot she had been holding. After the incidents with the Pink Cloud and the Canterlot Ripper, life was rather peaceful at the Canterlot Police Department, because there wasn't as much to take care of anymore, aside from the usual traffic violation or two. Not that this didn't make Winter happy. On the contrary, this was the entire reason she became a cop in the first place. Unlike some, Winter joined the force to help people and make their lives better. "Hun, this is the kind of day I live for," Winter replied, stretching her legs out and leaning back.
Just as Winter was stretching her legs to lean back, her peaceful serenity was broken when she looked over to check on the time. Much to her surprise, it seemed that she seemed to have forgotten something that was happening downstairs. Her eyes widened in surprise as she looked to Copper Top. "The Recruitment trials were today!" She exclaimed suddenly as she quickly put her legs off the table and went to stand up, almost knocking her coffee mug off the table. "I can't believe that I almost had that slip past me! I swear it was recorded somewhere on the calendar!" Copper Top seemed to have sprung into action as she straightened herself up like an arrow. "I'll check upon these new recruits, ma'am!" Winter nodded in response, seeing Copper spring into action like that caused her to stretch herself. A yawn escaped her lips as she begrudgingly mumbled under her breath. "So much for a quiet day around here..."
----- Spoiler: Music for scene A brown 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia camper van made its way southbound on Interstate 25. Inside were Rugburn, Circuit, Pinkie, Orchid and Rainbow Dash. While Rugburn drove, the others were watching Pacific Rim on Circuit's portable DVD player and drinking sodas from the included ice chest.
Circuit and Rainbow were sitting together, snuggled up closely as they watched the movie, while Pinkie was busy looking in wonder at the brightly coloured monsters on the DVD player, occasionally getting excited when a Kaiju was getting its butt kicked. Orchid was busy looking out the window, watching the moving landscape as her mind was set adrift. Rugburn soon looked into the mirror to see the teenagers having their fun. “Hope you’ve got a couple of movies to watch, we’ve got quite a long trip ahead of us. I mean, we are driving to California afterall” Circuit remembered how long the journey was when he moved to Canterlot all too well. It was a different time then, and fortunately for him, he was just glad to have left the orphanage and his old life behind. Now he’s going back, and he couldn’t help himself but be nervous. But with his loyal friends at his side, including his girlfriend, he has nothing to fear
————————— Hours earlier Canterlot Police Department, 9.21am A long line of new officers stood in line, all of them ranging in different shapes and sizes. Copper Top surveyed the new recruits, her eyes going up and down to investigate the new officers. In her hand was a notepad with a list of names. It seemed that many of them were nervous, the feeling of experiencing a job interview on the first day of work. The Chief looked especially decorated for this occasion, wearing her dark blue suit covered in insignia and other prestigious awards. She looked at them like Copper, her eyes darting back and forth. “No need to be so tense on your first day. You’ll get used to it” Winter told the group of officers in her foreign accent. “Allow me to introduce myself. Im Chief Rush, Chief of the Canterlot Police Department. We normally work on a first name basis here within the office, we tend to be casual around here. And from what I’ve already seen of your reports, you’re an impressive lot!” She giggled at the end. Winter looked at the new officers, slowly pacing up and down as the nervous group looked at their superior. She approached one of the males, a tall man that was even taller then the Chief herself. He reached out and offered to shake her hand. “Wild Ace ma’am.” The Officer professionally told her in a calm soothing voice. “I’m a transfer from Denver.” Winter smiled happily. “I’ve seen your records already Wild, and I must admit that I’m impressed. Your physical attribute score is especially high.” Wild smiled. “Thank you ma’am. I’m just looking for a new start in a new town The Chief nodded. “Lieutenant Top will give you first assignment this afternoon. I see big things ahead for you, Private Ace!”
