It's fine. I was like that myself when I first joined. I just stuck to stuff like forum games a bit and learned what other's liked through watching conversations. Sometimes you also just need to throw a topic out there and see who replies. It's really not a big deal if no one does as long as they see the post.
If I maybe be honest, you did make a better choice coming here. The community is small, but it's a lot better as well compared to the bigger and more popular of the forums. Trust me, if you ask around, you'll know about places that other ponies are from.
