He smiled. "It's nothing, really."
"Pink minute? I've heard of the golden hour, but not the pink minute."
"I won't," she assured. "When can I walk?"
"He was saying lies and bad things." He frowned. "It wasn't okay."
"It is," he agreed, following the creek back to the path. "The best time."
She nodded. "Yeah. I'll tell you if I need it."
"Then don't worry about it," he said. "I was only doing what's right."
He stood up, offering a hand. It has grown to be evening, and yellow light filtered down through the trees.
"No," she answered, her grip loosening. "I think I'll be able to handle it."
He put his hands behind his back awkwardly. "You don't have to apologize."
"It's alright. It was nice," he said. "Though, we should get going."
"It hurts a little," she admitted. "I can deal with it, though."
He rubbed her back, a bit nervously, but said nothing.
"You did," he answered. "It's okay, though."
She smiled at him. "Good morning."
He hesitated, then put his arms around her. "It's okay. I understand."
She sighed softly, continuing to pet her hair.
Avice shifted awhile later, wincing as the pain in her side reminded her of what happened. She settled, looking up at Jack and kissing his jaw.
He frowned. "He's wrong. You shouldn't listen to him."
He kissed the top of her head carefully, softly brushing her hair.
