Home-cooked meals and cut out soda.

At home I cook a pot of pasta that's good enough for about 5 or 6 bowls, depending on how much you can take down at a time. I could share some of my recipes if you want them. They're pretty easy as long as you have a stove.

I don't know if you drink much soda, but after I switched from Coke to Gatorade, I've lost a bit of my own belly, personally.

Also, forgot to mention: I stopped snack foods entirely, so I just run off of the meal foods.

As a fellow big guy I sympathize with you RS.
However, all the diets and regimes I've tried I either do not have the willpower to last long enough for a difference to occur or they simply didn't appear to do anything. The only real advice that has done me some good has been:

    • Smaller plates make for smaller meals. Psychology and that.
    • Smaller meals and non-sugary or fatty snacks are better than 3 big meals.
    • Don't eat late at night or just before sleeping.
    • Humans aren't evolved to eat meat and sugar every day. Most of the world still exists on vegetables, beans and other greenery. Learn to like them rather than, say, chocolate and that will help a lot.
    • The average male requires 2000 calories a day. Over a thousand of this will be burned by basic body functions, i.e. heartbeat, breathing, digestion, etc. The remaining number, which will depend on what you are eating that day and that day alone, will become fat if you don't exercise it off. Running (10mph or so) for a mile burns roughly 200 calories, walking (5mph) less than half that. Use mathematics.
    • If you are sitting at a desk all day, as a lot of us are, then keep your feet moving, the same as if you were taking a long-haul flight and don't want DVT. If something needs taking to another area of the building then volunteer to do it. Walk to work or at least park in the furthest corner of the car park. If you need to think about something then pace. Essentially use any excuse or opportunity to move about.
Whatever you do, just changing your diet won't do all you want. You have a disadvantage in that you wish to lose fat and your body really, REALLY doesn't. Seriously, in a famine situation your body will cannibalize your muscles way before starting on your fat reserves. You can try the various regimes and techniques that essentially fool your body into burning your fat first but as soon as you come off the regime, even for just Christmas or Thanksgiving, your body will destroy months of work in a matter of days.

For 'pectoral problems' you may want to invest in either an old-fashioned chest-expander (those two handled giant spring things) or some dumbbells and research the relevant exercises.

One thing to keep in mind that even if you shed all the fat you want, the skin still remains. No exercise will remove excess skin, that is a surgical job and can run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

TLDR; Eat less rubbish, eat more green things, run everywhere, carry heavy things.

1.) Stop drinking soda. Drink water.
2.) Drink a large glass of water before every meal.
    3.) Exercise.
4.) Avoid anything that contains high fructose corn syrup.

Low carbohydrate diets are the best. It takes commitment, but it works extremely well. Especially if you are overweight, you can lose a pound in a day.

I completely agree with 1-3, but there's nothing wrong with corn syrup.

What I found worked for me is keeping a log of how many calories you are eating in a day; record it for a week or so to get used to counting, and then try shooting for target amounts per day. Like if you normally take in like 2500 or 3000, try bringing it down to 2000. If you do that at the same time as exercising, like at a gym (if you go to a school with one) or just jogging up and down your neighborhood, etc, you can lose weight pretty quickly - maybe not instantly, but as each week goes by and you keep it up you'll notice it accumulating.

There are lots of "diets" out there claiming to help you do this and that but at the end of the day the most substantial thing you can do is just consume less calories, it doesn't matter what you eat, if you eat less of it you will get smaller. That being said there are more fun ways to eat less than others. If you eat a pound of vegetables vs 1 candy bar, they are the same calories but one is much less filling. So even if the candy tastes better its only setting you up for being hungry again later.

I'm a vegetarian and I've tried other diets in that past, but here's what works for me when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight:

    - Cut out as much of the chips, crackers and fried goods as possible. They really add up.

    - Limit how much bread you eat. It's nice, but unused carbs also add up.

    - There are some really nice alternatives for snack foods. Try fruit.

    - Remember not to change drastically (unless you're in need of serious help). Little cutbacks are best.

I hope that was somewhat helpful. Remember to balance dieting with exercise. They really play off of each other.
