I believe this site needs one. I find so many posts that are funny but I can't express my love for them without spamming. Is there anyway one could be implemented? I'm referring to a like button below every post like on facebook. That way, we can know who the real funny pony is around here (or the most helpful).

Sounds very similar to the reputation system we have.

If you like a particular post for being interesting, informative or entertaining, you can click that little mailbox item at the bottom of the post and provide that user with reputation points, represented via gems under a user's name and title. You also have the option of providing a reason for why you liked said post.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it does seem this is akin to what you're describing.

    @ Luprony

    It pretty much is.
However, I don't blame SRD for not knowing.
You still don't have a visible thread that explains the Reputation System.
Given time, I could probably make one, because I finally figured out the algorithm for rep.

    @SRD
There already is a rep system on the website.
If you like a post a user makes, simply click the chest under the post. (Add a comment if you wish.)
Clicking the chest under your own post will display how much rep your post has received.
Rep is accumulated and displayed as the gems under your name.

You start with 10 points of rep (2 purple gems).
You get a purple gem at 11, 15, 20 and 25 points of rep.
You get a green gem at 30, 40 50 and 60 points of rep.
You get a red gem at I believe 70, though I'm not sure.

When you give a user rep the amount of rep they receive is:
    Rep given = 1 + ([your post count] / 1000 rounded down).

On your reputation page (under My Profile) you can find all the users that have given you rep, along with any comments
they may have left when they gave you the rep.

There is a limit on how much rep you can receive within a given time frame.
If you receive more, it won't add to your total, but will show up on your reputation page (with a grey dot beside it).

    Hope that clears something up!

A like button is also entirely doable, I just never really thought any pony would be interested in it... If that assumption is wrong though, please let me know and I'll have one implemented before the weekend!

I think reputation is generally of a higher "standard" of content within a post, a 'Like' Button could just be for those posts which are awesome/funny but just dont meet the requirements for a post to gain a pony reputation.
Still, Im not fond of facebook so its up to you people.

I don't care for facebook, so I never cared for like-buttons.

    Well, here's my deal.

You make 10 really excellent posts. You also make 2000 crappy posts. Now where is all your reputation coming from? I mean you could be a total douche and still have a good reputation.

    Just a thought.

    Aye.
    But do consider;
We are a community like no other.
Many of use care for the well being and issues of other members,
be they financial, ethical, family, etc.
Since the forum opened, only one user has been banned. Ever.
We are an isolated little patch of calm and reason with the
maelstrom that is the internet, surrounded by the macro communities
that are 4chan and the like.
We have our own small society here.
    Acceptance and equality take precedence here;
One doesn't oft see member openly mocking, attacking, or discriminating
    against other members.
It's just not something that one would see as normal here.
If such a user as you have just described did make it onto this site,
    they would be painfully alone.
But not forgotten nor neglected. Just receive notions of disapproval,
    and perhaps even pity.
    We are Everypony.
    Utopia on the internet.

@grey All I can imagine is this war torn town (Internet) and under all the rubble, hidden away from sight, is a smallish building. All are allowed and welcomed with open arms as they flee the fighting even those that have participated unless they attempt to bring there war into are peaceful building.

Anyways on the topic of the like button I personally think it is unnecessary. However it would be nice to have a sticky post to explain the rep system so new people know of it without having to discover it. I would make the post myself however I don't know the system well enough.

well. I've actually seen this before.
on fer2.net (my collage forum) we have LOL, GRRR and Thank you buttons for every post (that is every except your posts).
    it works quite well really.
LOL if you're amused/moderately like some post, GRRR if you disagree or dislike some post, and Thank you if you agree very much with some post, or that post helped you in something.
(there's also ultimate agreement with Thank you+LOL from same member on same post, and facepalm which is LOL+GRRR by same member in same post).
I'm voting in for this new thing.
here's screenshot to see how it works in action. (Hvala = thank you)

I love Yetione idea. I would agree with that system above the like button and if coupled with the rep system since the like button just seems repetitive with the like button.
