Riddle me this: how do you call a baby pony? Baby pony? Nope, sorry. I was writing my ponysonas' profiles, and discovered a few words that could be changed. More into age of ponies. In Whiskypedia, they say something similar to what I'll put straight for you all. And this could be obvious, even idiotic to post, but there we go: Foal - is how you call the baby horses, and so will be with ponies. It's also the pony-quivalent of "child" in usage. Sentence: Abel had two children with Esther. Pony version: Lunar Fang had two foals with Star Shimmer. Likewise, Starlight Children's Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to brightening the lives of seriously ill children and their families. would be Starlight Children's Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to brightening the lives of seriously ill foals and their families. Filly - are female ponies. They're usually young, but old enough to live by themselves, which means at least human 14 to 30 years old. Mare - any female pony from human age range from 35 to 60 (which they're simply called "old mares"). *A particular note about this is: the mayor and Mrs.Cupcake, for example, are not fillies. They are mares. Why? Because from what it seems they're older than the mane cast, but not as old as an old maid. Mares are mothers, usually either married or in a full-time workplace. They're matured and probably have some more mature tastes, like reading, discussing, etc. Fillies are young, probably starting their life outside home or living with their parents. Why you don't know these differences? Because the show don't show those differences. As the animation's limited, the ponies look pretty much all the same. EDIT: Somepony deleted a part of my post! Was I warned?
Interesting. Being a city kid, I didn't know the difference. You'd think I'd look it up sometime, but in this world, horses make me a little nervous. I shall have to make note of this for any fan fic I may write.
