Or not; it's a free country XD Name: Ray Browncoat Age: 32 Gender: Male Breed: Unicorn Occupation: Totally legit private businesspony Appearance: Dark brown coat, black mane and tail with grey streaks, blue eyes. A full treasure chest for a cutie mark. Bio: Raised in a small fishing village, Ray was always looking to find ways to make easy money, regardless of legality. This desire, combined with his natural sailing abilities, soon led him into a life of smuggling and piracy. Years of work and a few lucky breaks landed him with his own ship, and now he attempts to make ends meet in this business whilst retaining some sense of morality... ----------------- "Giant squid attack? The grey pegasus scoffed, before nodding to the large earth pony, who delivered another kick to Ray as he lay in the alleyway. Ray suppressed a cry of pain before responding. "Hey, what can I say? Trouble has a habit of finding me. Luckily that seems to be over now." That remark earned him another kick. From his position on the floor, he spotted a figure coming down the alleyway towards them. He began to wonder if, just for once, lady luck might be on his side...
Let's see if I can make up an entire new OC. Name: Jack Gladius Age: 28 Gender: Male Breed: Earth Pony Appearance: White Coat with blue mane/tail, brown eyes. A Gladius as his cutie mark, he usually carries a unique sword(Will give more details soon), sheathed on his side. Bio: Jack's a relatively young swordsman and blacksmith by trade. He usually makes his way around Equestria to work on various metal objects, usually being weapons and armor of some variety, though he does know his way around making furniture, railings, nails, pretty much whatever normal metal object someone would need. ------------------------ The white coat of Jack became visible as he walked into a more lighted area, speaking to the group. "So, what's going on here? Some kind of trouble?" Jack would take a small glance to his sheathed blade then back to the two, his brown eyes gleaming as he gave a small smirk. "Because I like trouble."
"I was just teaching these two a lesson," Ray piped up, before before being silenced by another swift kick from the earth pony. "Turn around boy, this doesn't concern you." The pegasus warned, looking at Jack darkly.
"Really, looks like you're the one being taught a lesson." Jack gave a small chuckle, putting his hoof on his nose. "What if I want it to concern me?" He reached over, unsheathing his sword, the curved steel blade shining a bit in the light, as he put the semi-wrapped hilt in his mouth.
The grey pegasus looked at the blade and muttered darkly. He hadn't planned on a sword fight when they'd dragged Ray out here, and he wasn't prepared for one now, not in this town. He nodded to his earth pony thug, who gave "You'll regret this, boy." he said, as they walked off. "Yeah, you better run!" Ray called after them, before wincing with pain. He looked up at the white pony. "I appreciate the help. Not that I needed it mind you, but thanks. You got a name?" He asked, leaning against the wall as he tied to get up.
The white pony put his sword back into his hoof, sliding it into his sheath, as he slowly walked towards Ray. "Jack Gladius. I just saw a little two on one, and I didn't think those odds were fair. Are you going to be fine?"
"Oh yeah; I'll be fine..." Ray said, spitting out some blood as he made his way shakily to his hooves. "But uh, I could do with a drink, and I think I owe you one too. There's a tavern around the corner; I'm liked there. Well, less likely to be violently acosted anyway..." He started limping slowly towards the tavern.
Jack followed behind, closely, watching Ray's limp. "I think you need medical attention. That's not my strong suit though. Not by a long shot. I hope this tavern you state has someone that knows that."
"Oh it does; a pony by the name of Jack, Jack Daniels." He grinned crookedly, then frowned a little. "Did I give you my name yet? I'm sorry, name's Ray Browncoat, Privateer." He continued limping towards the bar. "You had the misfortune to catch me on one of the rare occasions I have to deal with unsatisfied customers. Ah! Here we are!" He stopped outside a run-down looking tavern called 'The Uneven Keel', before heading inside.
Jack rolled his eyes a bit at the Jack Daniels comment before looking around before heading into the tavern, giving a sigh after hearing Ray's profession. "Right... I'm a blacksmith... and swordsman. The two go hand-in-hand more than you'd think." He took a look around the inside of the tavern.
"A blacksmith and a swordsman? Interesting..." Ray said, as he pushed his way through the crowd to the bar, stepping around a pair of brawling ponies on the way. "I don't suppose you can sail can you?" He asked, as they reached the bar. "A bottle of rum, and whatever my friend here wants." he said to the barpony.
Jack took a small look back at the brawling ponies as he walked around them. He wondered if there was a dispute between the two, but his thoughts were interrupted by Ray's question, looking at the barpony as well. "I'll just have rum also. Sail? You mean like navigating and all that? Not really, I've traveled on ship before, but in terms of doing anything like setting one up, I haven't."
"Well, nothing that can't be taught; at least you're not one of them as turns green at the sight of open water." Ray said, as the barpony brought over a bottle of rum and two glasses. Ray floated him a few bits. Lifting the bottle with his magic, he poured them each a glass. "I have a proposition for you. How would you like to join my operation? You seem like you can handle yourself, and a blacksmith is always a worthy asset. I lost a crewmate in a recent... incident, and there's an opening; there's plenty of money to be made, if you're made of the right stuff..."
Jack thought for a moment, he could always use more money to support himself and to get more materials for his personal smithing. He reached out and took a swig of the Rum, swallowing, then gave a response. "... How often are these 'incidents'?"
Ray grinned "Depends on the quality of the crewmate really. It was more of a... disagreement than an incident really; we had a difference of opinion on whether the crew of the ship we were relieving of it's unwanted cargo were loose ends; witnesses that needed to to be held to a vow of silence, so to speak. Well the crew sailed away unharmed with their ship, and my ex-crewmate took a swim to the nearest island in a decidedly less pristine condition." He downed the rum in his glass, sighing as it numbed some of the pain. "So what do you think? Are we likely to have such moral disagreements? I'll need your answer in short order though; those two you scared off aren't so easily deterred. They'll be back, with more men and more steel, and I'd rather not still be in port when they do."
"Heh.... Alright, I get it, I've had to make some hard decisions for the right thing also. Don't worry about the two, I haven't met a swordsmen I can't handle in a battle of blades." He downed the rest of the rum in his glass. "For I have a trick up my sleeve." He took a slight look down at his sheathed blade.
"That's great, and I'm sure you'll have occasion to use it before too long, but that pegasus? This is his port, and he's going to come down on us with more than two swords; before he'd only lost money, now he's lost face too, and he'll be wanting to make an example. And numbers aside, sword fighting on the dockside tends to attract attention that ponies in my profession go to great lengths to avoid. No; one of the first things you learn in this line of work is that sometimes you have to run from a fight." He pushed away from the bar and stowed the bottle of rum in his pack. "So if you're interested, we'd better skedaddle." He turned and pushed his way back to the tavern's entrance before stepping into the street outside.
"... Alright, alright. I don't want to face... massive odds if I don't have to. It does take quite a while." Jack quickly followed Ray out of the tavern, looking around for anypony that was looking or following them.
Ray made his way through the streets towards the docks, his limp subsided somewhat. "Ah, there she is!" He said, smiling as they approached the end of the dock; moored there was a small two-masted Schooner. Tatty but clearly well built, the ship had the name Firefly painted across it's bow. Ray used his magic to lower the gangplank and walked aboard. "Can you untie our mooring ropes?" He asked Jack as he moved about, setting the rigging.
"Alright, I'm lucky to know what those are, thankfully." Jack nodded as he walked aboard as well, towards the mooring ropes, and began to untie them.
