Why are we only being told about Rarit E rejoining the team today? I noticed he was back on it days before now, shouldn't something important like that warrant a proper announcement the moment it happens, or at least soon after, not days?
That's the way it's always been, Berry. You know that. New staff are announced on the Community Post, and in the meantime, the new staff isn't allowed to really do anything until the public announcement. It's like hiring someone for a job and then starting them the next week.
That's nothing like hiring new staff, to those whom are relevant are told. And if that is not the case, then quite frankly something should be done about it. as a side note, I always hated it.
1. I don't consider it that important. 2. Like Yami said, Community posts have always been used for this sort of stuff. 3. It gave me a chance to catch up on everything before actually having to do anything. 4. Wether it was announced today or two days ago isn't really a big deal, so don't turn it into one. :derpe:
It really doesn't matter if it is important to you or not, last I checked it's what the public care about, really it doesn't surprise me the staff would think the opposite. And until there is a fashion to separate what a staff member is saying from that of an official staff statement, I will assume what any staff member says is an official staff statement, I believe I came up with a solution to this already long ago. And does that make it right? tradition is somehow sacred is that it? what tradition is that, the one where we don't tell people what is in progress or happening? it's really none of my concern as to how long it takes you to catch up on what is current, and it's a big deal to me, these sorts of things always have been.
Just responding to what was asked of me. Good call though, that is where it belongs, may I request a split and move?
So what you're suggesting is we should make a new announcement thread for every little update as opposed to gathering all those things into one weekly thread? I'm sure that'd be discussable. We can see how many people will be in favor of this. Depending on that we could make some changes. EDIT Split to a new thread upon request.
Considering from what I have learned from past experience, where those who bothered to post agreed with a thread, the majority was in fact ignored, instead, I think I'll pass, and make a post instead of a thread pointing out that fact, not that I care about what the majority thinks, it's just that seems to be what you care about, when really it shouldn't, and as evidence suggests, it doesn't anyway. As for the whole people have a right to know what is happening in their community as it happens, yeah, I think we should be kept up to date, who wouldn't? what harm is there in being open and communicative, all it takes is a single post on the forum.
I think it would have been cool to see someone new on the staff team. This really isn't news and is barely worth an announcement. No offense Rarit E.
I don't care either way on this subject. Announce new staff when you feel it's appropriate. I do care about this. Just because something has always been done the same way, it does not make it the right way. Veer off from the status quo. Always be looking to improve the site, even if doing so is hard. Do not scoff someone else's ideas. I'm talking in the broad sense, please do not confine my comment to this particular instance. Just my 2 cents.
Um...I'm not scoffing anything. I just don't see the need to flood the announcements section with little things every time they happen. At no point did I say tradition should be perpetuated simply because it's tradition. That would be ridiculous. What I said I said because I just don't get why he suddenly has an issue with the way it's done when he's been an admin for a year or so; and at least during the time I've been staff, I've never seen him displaying any kind of dislike for doing these things in the Community Post.
Now that this topic is in a suitable area, I'll give my opinion: I honestly don't mind how all this information gets given to us. As long as we hear about it, I'm okay with that. The community post seems like an ideal place to mention it. The point of the community post is to inform members about the going ons of the site. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I'd rather have all the necessary information given once a week rather than have separate single announcements and have to piece together everything. But like I said, I'm not too fussed, although it makes sense to carry on what we do currently.
This. Berry, you can think of the CP's as weekly "status updates". Hiring staff doesn't really require it's own separate announcement thread . A thread is for discussion. So we added a new mod, yaaaay. There's nothing else to go on -> dead thread and waste of space (no offense). The CP's provide a larger-scope weekly update where people get information, updates, and can discuss upon what news there is including non-critical staff changes.
Don't be silly, Berry. The Friday Night News waits to tell you about that terrorist attack! Not tell you on the day!
The only compromise I currently can think of for this would be to make a section for site mod/admin hires and retires, where a new thread can be made whenever someone on the staff either is hired on, rehired on, or retires. This certainly wouldn't help the complaints we've had of site clutter though, in my opinion. I personally prefer all news being summarized weekly in the community posts, which includes new hires, rehires, and retires.
Can't tell if completely missed the point, or really dim. @Lightning: Why does the solution to every problem on this site seem to revolve around a new sub-section being made? hurrrrrrrr, maybe just write a post for the front page about it instead.
