I have kind of made a mistake, I think. As I'm sure most of you know by now I write a blog about bronies called 'The Brony Blog'. I came up with this idea and despite how crazy I thought it was decided to act on it and see how it works out. I was very creatively inspired at the time and had a lot of fun writing daily articles and reviews about the fandom. After 2 weeks and getting to shout out my blog on 'The Brony show'. I started to lose motivation and creative inspiration and was starting to consider letting the blog go to rest. But then before I ran out of articles I had pre-written for future days. I got an email from Strawberry Spice from Equestria Gaming, who offered to buy me an official domain. My jaw dropped at this generosity and that my little blog had captured so much interest from a relatively big brony celebrity. Yes! I squealed, I promise I will work so much harder on this blog thanks to your kindness. So he bought me the domain and I now had the awesome memorable address of www.thebronyblog.com. this gave me a boost of motivation that kept me writing for a few more weeks. But now I have not written anything for the blof for over a week and I am feeling really guilty about it. I'm just not feeling the creative motivation at the moment and my reviews of music and PMVs in particular are feeling like I am writing the same thing over and over and while my earlier entries were funny and witty and full of puns and in-jokes. Lately they are getting more and more generic and uninspired. I feel like I am failing Strawberry Spice's confidence in me, as well as EPR who has affiliated the blog. I'm sure I will get back into a creative mindset eventually, it's just that this always happens. I get creative explosions where I get huge amounts of motivation and then after I have set myself up with an overwealming amount of responsibility and promises, my creativity crashes and burns and then I can end up abandoning my promises. I once before started a forum about activism on a certain topic and I got a shoutout from the most famous member of this activist group on the entire interwebs. My membership began to skyrocket. Because of this and the lack of other forums about this to compete with I could have been the owner of a forum that could have by now been 10 times bigger, maybe more then the EPR forums. But I burned out got depressed was inactive for 2 weeks and then was afraid to show my face there. Then the forum died and I missed an almost sure shot at the internet fame I wanted so much. Anyway this is a problem I have always had, which has led to many other problems. Such as convincing my mum to pay for a 1 year gym membership and contract, I only used for 1 month and more long creative projects I have never finished then I can count. So I just wanted to get this off my chest and hope I get into another creative high before The Brony Blog dies, TheOtakuAscended channel cashes in on a promise I made them and Season 2 of MLP and the opportunities it presents starts in 9 days. I am also working on a PMV that has been sitting there half done for a week now. All PMVs before that were always finished as soon after the initial idea as posible. Anyway rambling again. Anypony experience this problem too? Anypony got any advice for me?
Out of interest why not get others to also write for Brony Blog? but admin to check their work is acceptable?
I always do that I have a ton of songs half finished, I have only ever finished one song. Wait till season 2 starts and then I'm sure you'll start getting new ideas.
I agree with Rain Dash. It'll become more of a chore than a fun way to spend your time if you try to do everything by yourself. Other than that, all I can say is don't beat yourself up for needing to take some time off. Sometimes it's good to get back to reality for a bit, that way you can feel inspired to get away from reality again.
I look for inspiration in anything, but mostly ideas just hit me. The Quiet Place's editing is rather slow-going because I only do it at night when no one is around, and when I feel like it. I haven't resolved to write the next parts to it because I want to get the first part out. However, I did write the exposition to begin the first part. Anyway, in lieu of putting my second story and love fic on the back burner, I write down all ideas for the second in a document. I just add new stuff to it for when I'm ready to begin. For my other one, you have to force yourself into the mood. Start doing it, and then you'll settle into completing it.
Now now, your blog's perfectly good. I read it once in a while myself. ^_^ It's just that, during the show's development period there isn't much to do normally without S2... That probably is affecting your PMV development mood, too. But everypony goes on a creative low at times. It's completely understandable. Still, if you want to you may as well cover some fan projects and the like as you wait. I'm sure that would help you, and the projects... basically everypony wins and it might help your creativity low
1 I'm sure once the second season starts up you'll have more inspiration to write. 2 You could also try writing about things that bronies may be interested in besides MLP, a lot of industries do this during dead seasons. 3 I agree with rain dash, even if you found one co-author you would only need to produce 50% as much new material, and as a bonus you could help cover for each other when one of you needs a break. 4 Maybe have bi-weekly updates become the new standard? That would give you plenty of time to work on articles and such. Good luck!
You could wait for Season 2 to show up, then blog about that. Then again that's another week or so of not posting... You could also try to find other people to help the blog out instead of doing all of the work. Just don't give up on the blog, it's great and I hope you get to blog about more things.
Could you write about your experiences here? I've just been here for about a month and a half, and I'm amazed at the things that have happened here - the support people give, everyone so quick to rush in and help. Otherwise, Rain Dash might have an idea there - if you think that'd be alright. Mmm, I could see where you might think that *you're* not doing the work, though.
you gotta have fun making your blog or nopony will have fun reading it! try different things, some will fail and you'll feel dumb and others will turn into something awesome you never expected. i am most creative when i dont take it seriously--just having fun. as soon as pressure is applied from whatever, deadlines, expectations (personal and from others) and things like standards and quotas always completely erases all my creativity and motivation. i know this 'advice' is pretty vague and ambiguous but the problem is that your creativity is exceptionally unique to you and so all i can do is really just guess as to what makes it thrive. maybe deadlines and pressure are your thing, have you tried that? well good luck, for what it's worth i think your blog looks promising - seems like you put a lot of work into it.
I agree; let others administrate the blog as well. Not that you have to, but I agree with what everypony else is saying. :derpe:
Do you mainly just do stuff on PMVs? That sounds like it really could get rather repetitive to work on. XD I\'ve been writing a fanfic thing for a while now, and am currently on part 2. I rushed through the first two parts without any sleep in between (which went for more than 36 hours, mind you :33), and I've been working on the third part for WEEKS. Most of my inspiration has dried up. I know where to go with the plot, but it feels like every paragraph is exactly the same, but just with different additions to the storyline. I need to either find a side-project, or find some form of motivation. A side-project probably wouldn't be to helpful though, in my opinion, as it would just land me back where I started, with no idea where to go. But basically, when you do something like that, you should either find more members (I was thinking that relatively to the start of reading, only later did I realize that like, 473 people posted about it) to be working on, as a non-personal blog doesn't really have any reason to be done entirely by one person, or you should change up your content before Season 2. Do more of other stuff. There's more things we do than paste around clips of stuff we've already seen (no offense to PMVs and their makers, I think they're pretty cool). <33
