So today i was doing my usual epic procrastination when i noticed that of all the ponified icons i have on my computer, somehow i didn't have one for preview. So i searched the internet, and it turns out one doesn't exist (or at least i couldn't find it). this sorta surprised me, cuz it seemed like a pretty easy one to modify. So i tried it. I got most of the way thru, but then i hit a snag. So heres my question to y'all. Can any of you tell me how to get this

the semi-transparent lens thing, onto this

without transferring any of the picture underneath? cuz i've been trying for like hours. Im totally new to GIMP, so theres probably some trick that im missing.

Ask story time. He seems like the expert here for stuff like this.

That does not look that good, to be honest. Well, i guess he just copied it from the first picture into the second, deleted the transparent parts (those that were transparent in the first picture) so it corresponds with the rest of the new picture. You can clearly see some sharp edges in it when comparing it to the original... Wait, actually, looking at it now, it seems to have been done the other way around. He copied the Fluttershy pics into the original semi-transparent PNG and rotated them a bit...
Well, i guess he hid the Fluttershy layer, selected the transparent parts of the lens AND the parts that the lens doesn't touch, hit "select inverse", made the Fluttershy layer visible again. Then, he hit "erase" or "delete" or whatever and voila - That's how you'd do it in Photoshop. He, though, could've used a bit of a blur effect to hide the edits, but he didn't.

Bottom line - he didn't transfer the lens on those two Fluttershy pictures, but rather the other way around. How do i know? Well, the angle of the frames of those pictures match the angle of the frame of the original picture (that white spot around the pic). Hope you understood what i wanted to say.

Look at fluttershy's face in that pic, reading your post, that's how I looked.

You're probably right. This was something i whipped up cuz i was bored and had nothing else to do. I never said it was brilliant, or even good. This was my first time using GIMP (as i said in my first response) so i wasnt exactly looking for perfection. Just wanted a little help with moving the lens. And seeing as its gonna be a like 50x50 icon, i didnt think it had to be perfect. my mistake.

but, thanks for the constructive criticism. And seeing as getting help on my original problem would be pointless now, forget i ever asked anything
